    2023 Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 Auto
Hello all. First post. Just picked up a new 2023 Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 Auto. Currently at 200 miles. The transmission likes to slip into 5th gear when it should stay in 4th around town. I've been pushing the shifter into the sequential mode and leaving it in 4 for almost all of my driving so far. It just doesn't drive properly in "D", in my opinion. I use 5 to keep it out of 6th gear on the highway too (lots of hills where I live).

Here's my question: Is it okay to constantly drive the truck in these settings? Is it bad for the transmission in the long-term or while it's still breaking in? Should I leave it in "D" and let it learn my throttle behavior instead? I'm sure the transmission is bulletproof but I figured I'd check with in with you guys.

    Thanks in advance.

it's completely trashed. i'll do you a favor and take it off your hands for $10.

it's fine. the only difference is going to be a slight decrease in mpg, as the truck estimates mpg based on the drive cycle that demands shifting to 6th as soon as possible, despite the reality that the physics of the truck won't allow it to move in 6th at 35mph...

I would let it do its thing for the first couple of thousand miles. Mine adapted to my driving pattern pretty well and either it doesnt shift as much or I got used to it.
