2017 TRD Offroad manufactured in Baja. The truck has around 65,000 miles on it and I first noticed the issue a couple of years ago. I figured I was out of luck, but this thread inspired me to make an appointment with the dealer and see what they had to say. The dealer mentioned that they had seen this before, but it was an issue I would have to take up with corporate. I contacted corporate and was advised there are no service campaigns or recalls, but my issue has been noted and I will be contacted if anything changes. Sadly, they are ignoring what is obviously a widespread issue.

My Tacoma is starting to peel more on the upper part of the rear windows, right behind the weather strip. I haven’t seen anybody post issues with the upper door on here recently so I just wanted to let everyone know it could be another problem area.

Not the best photos, but a little update on mine. Just noticed it flaking off on the passenger side, top/forward most portion of the bed. Still continues to peel at the bottom of the A pillars on both sides, especially quick progression inside the fender at the hood, driver side.

I’ve got the exact same spots peeling except for the spot on the bed. I’m keeping a really close eye on everything to make sure the paint doesn’t start rusting through the base coat. Still hoping Toyota provides some help but not expecting it

I imagine the manager that got a raise and bonus by suggesting to do one less coat of paint and speed the paint robot up by 60% (hypothetical reason) has now moved on to another higher paying job and will never be kicked squarely in the nuts for his stupid call.

Probably saved 1 million dollars that ends up in a 100 million dollar lawsuit.

Who are the lawyers who won the settlement for the other cars who got coverage? Has anyone reached out to see if they want to take on another case for the Tacomas?

Where did you learn there was any suit or settlement that caused the other models to be covered?

Mine is getting worse in all mentioned areas. Shopping Amazon for some flat white vinyl decals I can trim to shape, to stop the spread of it.

    Fuuuuuckkkkkk%%%%

    Just discovered today on mine.
    I am beyond pissed!!

Model year is 2021. I purchased brand new November 2020. I have 43k miles right now.
Passenger side fender by windshield and door.

I might just go trade it in and don’t even bring it up to the dealer. I don’t have time to deal with their bullshit of dealing with corporate.

Might not be a bad idea. Figure the cost of a proper repaint vs the cost of the trade though. Not just in differential $, but taxes, finance cost and time cost of $. You *might* be ahead. Or not.

There is no 'dealing'. Tacoma's are not covered. You might find post 317 in this thread interesting.

Toyota is still having issues with their white paint. I just bought a new 2023 Ice Cap TRD Offroad. When I got it home, I noticed a smudge on the bottom of the passenger's rocker panel. When I rubbed it with a rag the paint came off on the rag. I checked the driver's side, and it did the same. The full length of both rocker panels in areas rubbed off down to the gray primer. The lower section of the front fenders is also affected. It's like the paint never cured and has a tacky feel. Toyota has already agreed to repaint the truck. I am in negotiations with them now because I want them to replace the truck or at least compensate me for the loss in resale value for a repainted vehicle.

Are they repainting the entire truck? This is what mine looks like and I am waiting on dealer to get the resolution from Toyota. 2023 TRD off-road bought new in June is doing the same thing. After a wash I was drying the truck and noticed there was no paint/was tacky and would wipe off like never cured.

Any TX built trucks in here? Supposedly Mexico EPA had different requirements, leading to a different paint formulation in Mexico built trucks.
