Trailforks.com. Both a downloadable phone app with hiking maps and a website with maps of hiking trails. White Tanks park near Surprise has several trails listed. Do not forget about those trails especially as temps drop a little (but not to WI levels).

EDIT: Green/blue is easy, red is more difficult. Black is hard if not a bit dangerous as well. REI sells hiking shoes and gives you a 1-year "return after use, if it does not work" policy. I wear La Sportiva TX4, an "approach" shoe with really sticky outer sole surface. I refuse to pay for Salomon Contragrip sole because one pair wore down the sole in 1 month, but my TX4 last 6-7 months (hey ... AZ rips up hiking shoes!).

Edit: so I never knew this but they rate different activity trails differently which is really annoying. For MTB, double black diamond trails are actually red and called “pro line” but then apparently for hiking there is a red trail thats less difficult than a black :der: I still like Trailforks better than any other app.

Really. Well, I like the harder ones regardless. Some are "up but almost never down" because of slope/gravel, so my selection of which trails for the loop becomes important.

Glad there is another hiker in here to guide the OP in the upcoming days. But regardless of red/black, my knowledge of South Mountain Park is far better than the Surprise area. Superstitions should be on my agenda, too. Also taking a real shot at Picacho Peak (I know what it is now and can adjust my effort). Maybe finally have the specific leg strength for that up-step about 3/4 mi into Camelback. So many options ...

See my edit above. I was slightly wrong. I mostly use Trailforks for MTB and only occasionally for hiking. I have actually found that Alltrails is more accurate for hiking and has much more “inventory” of trails but I cross reference multiple platforms when Im not familiar with a place.

    They do what they want.

Supr4Lo will not be able to tell difference between red and black just yet ... just the pre-Cambrian rock and moondust surface will be overwhelming enough for a bit.

Thank you everyone for the welcomes. Glad to be here! Like I mentioned before look forward to meeting everyone either for a beer or trail run.

Thanks for the tip on the trails. My wife is looking forward to getting out and doing some hiking.

Speaking of trail runs. Anyone want to hit payette draw or some table mesa crawling in the next month or so?

Do not forget off-roading. This book has trails, certainly not all that TW folk know but at least something you can read. Toyota dealers, off-roading-stores, etc carry them in-stock as well ...

So @KingOfTheNorth I forgot to mention when we got to the house there is a pile of trash that is supposed to be picked up and in it is this beauty. 20230914_184202.jpg

Wonder if it's an omen since we were just talking about modding one. Looks like it even comes with a back board for broken backs after some sweet jumps lol.

If the garage wasn't in such disarray I'd grab it.

Put a turbo-4 from the 2024 line on it. Might move it down the road somewhat quickly. :D

After you have driven around PHX for a week, you will notice a particularly "selective" enforcement of traffic laws ... such as "no lights at all at 2 AM" being ignored by law-enforcement

I bet if you half-track that and rive it on the road you will only get some advice from the police to use a helmet.
