Some of the high tech Lincoln Electric Machines have a remote Command and control system.

This might be some type of Alarm the machine output has dropped below the threshold current.

This should be covered in the operators manual or noted where to find this information.

Without the serial number and Code it is all a guess.

Mechanical Properties
Yield Strength
4140 steel has a higher yield strength of 60,200 PSI (415 MPa) than 1018 steel with 53,700 PSI (370 MPa). As a result, 4140 steel can withstand more impact and pressure without deforming. Its higher yield strength is a result of its chemical composition. However, 1018 steel also has a relatively high yield strength, meaning it is not a weak metal.

Elasticity
This property is a means of understanding a material’s resilience and resistance to deformation. Elasticity also relates to metal stiffness. 1018 steel has an elastic modulus of 205 GPa, while 4140 steel is between 190 to 210 GPa. This shows that both steel grades respond similarly to elastic deformation.

Material Hardness
A material’s hardness showcases its ability to resist deformation by penetration, indentation, or other means. 4140 steel has a Brinell hardness rating of 200, while 1018 steel has a rating of 130 to 140. This shows that the former is much harder than the latter. However, both steel materials have enough hardness to withstand pressure without deforming.

Corrosion Resistance
4140 steel is more corrosion resistant than 1018, thanks to the chromium content. This is one of the 4140 steel properties that makes it more useful for outdoor applications. Manufacturers often choose this steel material for fabricating components expected to get in contact with corrosive materials.

 

I found those same numbers. I'm assuming that all those values are after hardening. What about when annealed?

I know, no help, but when my truck is not fully engaged in 4lo, I get an annoying beep. Sorry, couldn't help it...the little guy that sits on my shoulder and tells me what I should and shouldn't post...well...he went for a smoke.

Yes this is the welding thread, and there's metallurgy involved, but it isn't required as part of the job for many. On top of that many welders here are hobbyists.

Hopefully someone gets you the answer you seek.

 

On another note, someone with a functional VIM module confirmed it is a closed circuit

That means my VIM module is fried

No continuity through DIV in out





Was simpler only having to probe one side of the module as I used pins 1 and 2 on the cable socket end to probe through the other side

And yes, that was checked for continuity as it works well and is the factory supplied cable





Stripped the "guards" off the PrimeWeld and will open her up tomorrow in preparation for tapping into RAW voltage



My VIM module still needs replacing but I'm hoping to get it up and running the second replacement parts make it their way here

 

The little culprit

 

The older I get my eyes and not what they used to be. Was measuring something one day with a scale and couldn't see it that good. Ordered a magnetic LED light and fixed that

The real question is hard in what application ?

Are you talking impact resistance ?

Surface Abrasion resistance?

Hardness in machining ?

Heat treating can be a very complex depending just what your end goal for the material is.

No matter just where I placed the light I would have shadows that made seeing things hard at times.

 

The only shadow with this is pretty close to the cut line, depending on how close you need it

Will see the band color, order a new resistor of the same value, repair old module, and set aside as a backup

Just sucks it happened and I don't have a Radio Shack near me; I miss those days of going and opening their little slide out drawers rummaging for the parts I needed

 

Is Radio Shack even still in business? I haven't seen one in over 10 years.

I can remember attending the Grand Opening of the store in the Mall of Memphis, they were giving away free D-cell flashlights with a coupon from the paper. My Dad kept going back in to get more.
