You are correct, and good point about taking longer to work out the problems. I was talking about forced induction being used in the Tundra in the form of a 6cyl replacing the V8. Ford and GM offer both V8 and smaller displacement turbos at the same time. That might benefit their research for both engines and what works well in their respective applications. Both GM and Ford sell more 1/2 tons than Toyota, where this might work well for them. Toyita might not see the same advantage overall by testing and offering various engines. I think Toyota would see a benefit in their development stage by offering both NA V8 and tt6 on the same platform.

I think you may be right about having both being better for development, but you are also 100% right about Toyota's tiny 1/2 ton market share not justifying the added cost. Sadly, for a Toyota 1/2 ton, good enough is about all we are ever going to get. If the kalifornia would lighten up on the emissions crap (they drive the national regs through their oversized vehicle market) then Toyota could bring in some of the unkillable diesels they run in other countries around the world, and it'd be a bloodbath for the Big 3. It'll never happen, but that would get them a much larger piece of the 1/2 ton pie.

From what I’ve read about the new 2024 Ford f150.. A v8 option is only available on the $110K Raptor R. All other f150s have turbo v6s

Nope. I just went on Fords page and did the "Build & Price" for a 2024 and even on the XLT, I was able to select the V8. I do believe the non-aspirated V6 was officially dropped though (past due to happen IMO)

Not really. They sell way more and that allows more powertrain options. If Toyota were selling 10 times as many Tundras, they might offer more engines.

Agreed. With sales being that high, Ford hits different buyers in the market in higher volumes. Ford can justify 4 engine options in the half ton market. Not to mention those engines are used in multiple applications.

The 3rd gen Tundra's engine is used in what, 3 different vehicles across Toyota and Lexus?

I got into one for a couple reasons. It was the literal last truck on the lot during covid, my tacoma was my DD and I'd been driving it for a month with rodknock. The tundra is capable of towing my tacoma to the autocross races, (now that it's fixed), it gets equal mileage to my 4 cyl tacoma at 18 mpg roughly. 8 ft bed, I can haul all the stuff I need as a new homeowner as well. I grew up with my old man having the first gen tundras and learned to drive in one. Proven reliability, more than enough towing capacity for anything I'm doing currently.

I bought my Tundra because I wanted a traditional v8 gasser for towing. Don’t know enough about diesels to work on them, and I’m Just not a big fan of the extra complexities of the turbo 6 engines these days (though they are impressively powerful/good on mpg)

On the v8 front, I previously had a 5.7 Hemi that blew at 135k miles. One owner, full service, didn’t matter. I am done with dodge after that. Never been a GM fan, Ford I think makes good products but there really are not that many 5.0 v8 Fords out there used. And I still think Toyota outpaces those in reliability by quite a bit.

I did drive a used Nissan 5.6 but I don’t know. It just didn’t feel well built compared to the Tundra.

I have a pretty built 03 Jeep wrangler I tow with the Tundra. I estimate with the trailer it is ~6500 lbs. Compared to the Hemi, it tows like there’s nothing back there.

Had your engine blown out yet on your 3rd gen Tundra?

Got my tundra back in ‘02 cause I could fit 2 other humans reasonably comfortably and it had an 8’ bed in a relatively compact wheelbase and exterior dimensions.

I do wish it had a better turning radius though.

Trucks with comfortable back seats are compromises. Either way too long or the bed is not much of a bed.

I have not bought one yet but the backseat of a full size one is huge and I think my 3 dogs would love it.

However I would want the access cab (Probably not the name of the configuration) because i want a 6 foot bed so i can build a sleeping setup in the back. So with that being said, gotta get the tundra or 6 foot tacoma.

    cheers.

More room, more power but not equivalent on mileage. If you have experience with both trucks you would know the Tundra mileage is in a category of its own upload_2023-11-13_8-31-21.png

Bought 24 Tundra Pro because there's nothing like a new truck and was 2nd owner on my last gen Tundra. Also didn't feel like upgrading parts like my last ride or deleting chrome so Pro fit what I was looking for.

Ain't that the truth. TFL had a 2024 limited Taco and it was $53k That's more than what my 2020 Tundra SR5 TRD Sport was.

Even on the used market, prices aren't too far apart.
