I used some salvage yard door bumper grommets when I wired mine.

Have you considered making pre-cuts on the bent area? It can be welded in after for structural integrity.

Nice. Have you tried reducing the cuts to say 3 - 4 per side and about .5-1'' in length?
That would make welding them in a lot quicker and the bends sharper.

 

The last picture is the 4th or 5th iteration as I've changed the length of cuts several times.

Since then I've kept the long relief cut and bend on a vise, since naturally the relief cut would give the tightest bend.

The goal here was with the tighter radius bottom die, I thought I'd get at least twice as tight of a radius as I actually got in the above pictures.

 

You could probably get a tighter bend if you heat up the piece but then again its more work. Your probably best off doing a commination of cuts and using the brake.

 

Will really just have to stick with no press brake, and just continuing as usual.

*Maybe* a nice v block will work

This might be worth the investment.

I invested in some tooling right off the bat when we got this new house.

And really I expected just to do small things for myself and some others.

I didn't expect 1 item to be so popular I'm making multiple which is why I'm thinking production now (for this specific part).

I'll really need the die block, but I'm hoping the 20 tons will be enough at 11" wide.

 

you should be able to modify the press to make it work for what your doing.
I noticed that most brakes that do a nice sharp corner use a tighter opening. I think you have a 90 degree in the picture. Maybe mess around with closing it up to 65-50 degrees.

That might be a bit much to end up with a sharp 90° bend, but 75°-80° might do better. Most metal does have a little bit of spring back when being bent. I wouldn't be shocked if there were a chart on web with spring back rates for bending various thickness of steel.

 

What you guys are actually referring to is air bending, versus bottom bending which is what I have

I would need a particular bottom die for this application; finding out the angle though is something I'd need to talk to a specialty shop about

 

At least the table is working in this Fashion.

When you said Total Failure I thought catastrophic table melt down.

It is only a bending problem you will figure out.
