    Hey guys,

I am debating whether to purchase a Tacoma from US, I have searched and found all of the documentation and procedural steps on RIV.

I was just wondering the pros and cons of the day-to-day driving and pet peeves people have experienced (ie the speedometer impossible to get used to, trips are calculated in miles)

    Thanks
    J

IIRC, The Canadian Tacomas have a 4 leaf rear spring pack, and the US ones have a 3 leaf spring pack....Oh....ANd the US ones are filled in Gallons. :p

I have a US import. The speedo is easy. The only painful thing is knowing the odo says 153k miles but its really means 245k km :(

thanks OZ it was a helpful thread for sure!

Toyota's warranty carries over from the US to Canada im 99% sure.

the ODO is a bummer eh? I saw some people changed the lights on the speedo to make them brighter to see the smaller KM/H, not necessary? The trip calculator tick you off?

I was always wondering but was never able to find out for sure, does the Tacoma have a Range calculator that shows the remaining kilometers left in tank? and does it display outside temp and direction? this has always seem to slip by me when i saw them at the dealer. :D

I'm not sure there are any places in Canada where you can fill up in gallons, we only have liters up here.

I just recently imported my 06 from maine, (2 weeks ago). So here is some first hand, recent experience answers.

Speedo: I'm more of a drive by feel driver, therefore the speedo being in miles is almost irrelevant because the amount of times that I look at it I could really care less. Im sure you'll be happy enough with your truck that a small thing like that will not bother you.

Warranty: Warranty is 100% transferable to Canada, recalls etc. My dealer has no problem at all with service, I only know because I asked before i bought, I have not had to bring my truck in yet

Remaining Distance: Not on my truck

Outside Temp, Compass: As far as i know the TRD models have this, there is a button to switch from Fahrenheit to Celcius, (one click for off, another for F and a third for C)

Pro's: Truck is awesome, could not get Double Cab, Short Bed, with and auto in Canada, more selection, savings $$

Con's: Gas is killing me coming from a 2000 Jetta! (But don't let this deter you, its really not that bad)

Other Notes: You will not pay any duty on the vehicle because it is assembled in the U.S. As well I did not pay tax in Maine, i paid federal taxes at the border crossing and my provincial taxes at SNB (dept of motor vehicle)

thanks spares! I was wondering why i cant find ANY short bed double cab TRD's in canada, ive been looking everywhere!

im still searching through the states but im keeping the 01-04 models open DCAB + TRD 4x4 for sure..still in university so just looking for something to take on adventures with..

I thought if you imported a year older than 2008 you needed to pay additional taxes?

That annoyed me for a bit too. I even got pulled over for not having them! (not ticketed though) But then I noticed that the headlights turn off when you take the keys out and open the door. So now I just leave the headlights on all the time.
