Windshield tent

Just decided to throw some tint on the windshield and doors. What do you guys think?

 

Looks cool, probably keeps truck a little cooler, but impractical for driving at night in my opinion. I'll probably do the side windows at some point, but not the windshield. If you find the wrong LE who writes you a ticket, that could be a pain.

Cali cops don't like windshield tint.

 

IMO Windshield Tint is one of the dumbest thing you can do to a vehicle. You're taking the one thing on a vehicle that you have to see through to drive safely and now tinting it dark to make it "look good" and maybe save 5 degrees of internal heat.

It's asking to get pulled over. It's asking to get into an accident and be at fault due to impaired vision.

I just don't get it.

Came here to see the windshield TENT and am leaving disappointed.

 

I was stopped about 3 times in college for front door window tint. Not really worth it, in my opinion.

 

Just don't be one of the jabronis who tints their windshield to 5% and then ends up putting in ebay HIDs that blind everyone else because they suddenly can't see as easily when driving at night.

 

I only use this truck for weekend camping. Our town is OK with the tint and I rarely drive at night. Also it's not as dark as it looks.

I have been tinting the windshields on everything I own or have owned for the last 20+ years. It is actually the exact opposite of what you would imagine. Using a high-grade 70% ceramic or better technology tint helps in many ways. And is hardly noticeable with the exception of its benefits. My favorite is, that it allows for you to go lighter on your side glass but still have the privacy of a darker one. This is due to the spotlight effect being lessoned with the reduction of windshield light entry. Another is it dramatically reduces the glair of oncoming traffic at night. You add this to the already-known benefits of high-quality tint. And you may better understand someone's reasoning for favoring its use.


Just a helpful tip here should you decide it's for you. I have found it very helpful in preserving the condition of your windshield's tint. Should you have to add or remove stickers etc...

I get it with high quality vs poor quality. I did cheap poor quality on my Tundra and within a year and a half it was already fading to half the original level. Round two had high quality tint done. Also I've noticed when dropping my full back window, the effects of 20% on front doors is almost diminished (which I knew would happen and I'm ok with). I just have a hard time seeing how 20-5% tint on a windshield (no matter the quality) helps with visibility.

Then again I don't have a frame of reference since I haven't had it done. Only using the logic that my brain develops on a Wednesday morning lol

 

I was very against windshield tint until I moved to Phoenix and checked out some friend cars with windshields done in ceramic. Even my wife, who doesn’t care about vehicles at all, wanted her windshield done asap because the heat rejection is really nice.


Personally, I have 15% all around with 50% windshield and a 5% eyebrow. I wouldn’t go this dark if I lived anywhere else but here, I feel it’s warranted.

 

I have an astigmatism and the light glare at night kills me, last night on the way home from the city, I couldn't even tell it was tinted until a car was approaching and it kept the glare down a great deal. The other thing is that it gets to be 110f where I live and having anything that helps with that heat is a plus.

Seems like their are a bunch of inexperienced folks here that just want to bitch lol. And trust me I will do everything in my power to stay way of the Missouri River lol.

 

There is a dot approved 99% ceramic windshield tint. It is clear and you can't tell it's there, but it does block a bit of heat. I've thought about getting it.

 

Well worth it, IMO. Although the stuff I used I don't think was 99%, it was probably 70-80% but still it's not something that's even visible when looking at the truck unless you REALLY know what you're looking for.

IMO, ceramic tint - all the way around, including the windshield - is now a mandatory mod for all our vehicles. I had to see it to believe it but the amount of heat blocking it provides is stunning. Not sure how I lived in this hot/sunny area before without it!

I thought “oh, that could be cool for me working on my truck when the sun gets low”

 

I was told it was 50% but I don’t think mine is…pretty sure it’s 20-35% tint with a 5% eyebrow. Not as dangerous as it looks…you can see clearly at night and that’s with 5% all around.

 

So just sort of for weekend camping? You asked for opinions...so you got them. If it works for you, then great. None of us are driving your truck. Just don't get on here asking for opinions and then complain about the ones that aren't what you wanted.
