As others have mentioned, insurance premiums have gone up in almost all instances, it seems. I have AAA, but you can shop around and look into companies that may have multi-policy or other discounts. I get discounts for multi-car (having all my vehicles insured through AAA), multi-policy (auto, home owners, umbrella), and mature driver (50+ in California).

As many have said shop around. Keep in mind rates are also affected by large claims in other areas, let's say company x has the more people covered in a disaster hit area then company y. Y's rates are not going up as X's rates across that companies insured. Just because you don't have a claim doesn't mean your rates are going to stay steady. I have in my opinion really a great rate, that's with a good driver, and good credit discount. The good credit discount is the largest across the board from all insurance companies I've shopped. About every 3 yrs I check rates the company I have now seems to be lucky missing some of these huge weather events for now.

The biggest cause for the spike in insurance premiums across the board is idiots on cell phones. People playing with their phones while driving are 5-10x more likely to get in an accident than a drunk driver (depending on the study) and their are 100x more of them. Until the laws catch up to that fact and people start losing their driving privileges for texting and driving, and then people start using their brains as a result, rates are going to continue to skyrocket.

No insurance company has any loyalty to you, so shop around. You say you’ve been insured by xyz company for 20 years? They don’t care. Insurance policies are issued annually, or every six months. That’s the time frame insurance underwriters are working in.

Erie is a good company, by the way, if you live in a region where they write policies. Clark Howard’s web site has recommendations for good insurance companies.

I currently have Erie Insurance for my Tacoma with full coverage and comprehensive on pop up camper I'm payin $936/ year. I'm almost 50 and live in a smaller Central Pennsylvania city, park off street, don't have any tickets in over 5 years, excellent credit, and no claims in over 3 years. Location and a lot of those things effect your rates.
I shop around every few years too for both home and Auto. I highly recommend trying to keep both with the same company as often there is a multi policy discount.
I've had Progressive and liberty mutual in the past. Progressive was decent with good rates but Erie with the multi policy discount beats them for me by a few hundred a year. Some 8-10 years ago Erie dropped me on the auto side for having too many claims some of them not my fault, 2 comprehensive claims and a small collision claim. Then I went with Liberty Mutual. LM was fine to for year one then when renewal time came I had no additional claims tickets accidents or anything they wanted $500 more than the previous year. I felt like they try to pull me in with a low rate then it skyrocketed.

I would say shop around 3-4 places. Go to AAA see what they have if your a member. Shop with an independent agent, and Check out USAA if you are/were in the military.

I heard the Kia and Hyundai thefts are playing a big role in the insurance hikes lately. The insurance companies are making up for their losses that they are paying out now left and right due to these two brands being so easy to steal.

This right here, So TRUE! In the past I been rear ended 2x by People that were messing with their phones. Both times they were ticketed for failing to pay full attention while operating the vehicle or similar. Even I had a close call once and that was it. No call or text is important enough to chance causing a crash over. Since I only use handsfree features and voice to text. I lay my phone in the center console with the vehicle is in motion.

Asking pricing is a worthless question, too many variables as each premium is specific to each insured. Best advice is SHOP around different carriers and get a DASHCAM.

There's no way they are covering that amount of modifications on a standard policy. You need a supplement on your policy. Other option would be getting custom car insurance. Those policies usually have a stated value.

That seems to Liberty Mutual’s way of doing business. Low introductory rates the first year, then rates go up dramatically when you renew. Same thing happened to me about ten years ago.

Lots of other companies do the same thing.

Hey, guess who’s paying for those hideous TV commercials?

teaser rates aren't just tactics for the insurance industry, there are many that do it.
home internet, TV services, satellite radio, etc etc.
They know, people are shopping price, then get lazy, so they make their money on the back end.

Yep they all do it. I am pretty happy now that all my policies have been back under Erie for several years. They don't waste money on trying to make catchy ads or promotional rates.

Comcast and XM have been after me all the time. XM with their mailers that go in the bin or get used to start camp fires. Comcast, just called me the other day to try to swindle me in to a higher speed and more costly internet plan with promotional rates that of course skyrocket when the promo is over. they are sneaky and try not to tell you what the regular price will be. I'm always too clever for that. I always ask what the 2nd price is after they tell me about the promotion. I just hung up on them when I seen the deals were for speeds we don't need as internet providers always try to over sell that and the deals were more about more coin for their pockets rather than mine.

Unless you're in Florida, in which case that's a monthly premium - not exaggerating.

Insurance companies like using jingles to sell you policies but not A A A, that's triple A!

    Nationwide is on your side.
