True, BUT... You are also not penalized for running like complete shit the last 3 weeks. Such as the 19.

 

Well... provided others run like shit enough that you make it to the next round anyway. Your success throughout the year and in subsequent rounds is rewarded with that cushion, even though it generally isn't much of one.

 

Rackley WAR punted DiBenedetto and will have another driver for the rest of the season.

 

Not much of a cushion. The 19 had a complete race on the field and almost didn't make the cut. Now he gets it again, its like using your get out of jail card and getting it handed back.

 

Success all year still counts for something. He still had 4 drivers who were more dog shit than he was.

 

Always more to the story. I'm guessing his odd timing on his announcement didn't go over so well and they had a falling out.

 

I got a different perspective... I think since he was a lame duck they wanna use the opportunity to try out other perspective drivers.

I still Matt's got something big in the works for 24. Just gotta work out the fine print most likely... Or waiting for the right moment for the announcement. That's just the feeling around his fangroup circles.

 

Maybe wishful thinking. I'm a little more skeptical after this move.

 

Actually they just didn’t have the points to cover like he did. Why should the last 3 shit weeks not count for the 19 moving forward?

 

And that's his reward for his success in the regular season, which is much longer than just this first round.

 

My point is that it should all count. For instance, he does well in the regular season and carries that cushion into the playoffs. Great for him. That does not negate falling off a cliff in performance for those two or three races. That should not be wiped away for an award that is designed to reward a body of work. It should be included. From my perspective, once the regular season ends. Award all the bonus points earned from the regular season but they should not reset between rounds. That's how you end up with a champ like the 22.

 

I guess I'm not sure what you're saying. To my knowledge, there are no bonus points earned that aren't carried through the entire playoff until the final round. The final round is the only place where there are zero bonus points.

So the 19 started the round of 16 first or near the top of the board. Then ran like total shit and fell back to 12th. At the end of that round all is forgiven and he is back near the top to start the round of 12 because he made the cut. Essentially forgiving his poor performance for the last 3 races. You don’t see an issue with that? Bonus points are bullshit. That’s why you see the 22 run mid 20’s then win a stage and collect points because he stays out. We obviously will not agree on this issue but with this system you don’t actually get a champion.

 

Actually you do. It rewards consistency whether you would like to admit it or not. The bonus points gave him the cushion to remain above the cut line. There are bonus points awarded during each round as well. Given that he didn't earn that many, he doesn't get the exact same advantage he had previously since others ran better and got points of their own. As each round progresses, that cushion shrinks. You don't make it to the final 4 by coasting. You don't make it there, you have zero shot. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here.

 

Yes we disagree. I do not think that you should be carved out in the top tier then rewarded for finishing outside the top 30 several races in a row. That by definition is not consistency. Or in the manner we are discussing it anyway. That is being rated on your performance earlier in the season but not right now.

Scuttle going around the groups is possibly KBM. And Matt is on team Chevy... So...
