Back from a quick trip to UC Davis and back


Now with a little break in my schedule I'm taking steps to resolve the driver side exhaust manifold leak in the V band flange. Hopefully this will improve gas mileage and smooth out the fuel trims a little.

Nice bit of discoloration to make it easy to see where it's warped.
220 grit was working better but I only had one used sheet and it didn't last long.
320 is going to have to do it.

This is the glass table top that went with me up the mountain and back, glad I didn't break it before having a chance to use it.


Ran out of elbow grease, will resume tomorrow.

 

Won't be long now. Depending on how bad it was, you may even feel an improvement.

 

Its looking pretty good, time to put it back together

 

What a joy it is not hearing that exhaust leak and the AFR is steady between 14.5 and 14.9 instead of bouncing back and forth between 13's and 15's

Hopefully that's the last of my CEL for a while

Make sure to retorque your v-bands after the first heat cycle

 

I've been very happy with it and mostly use it to monitor temperatures and the volts.
It's definitely handy even when it deliveres "bad" news.
I noticed this today when I went to clear the P0420 code.

This is a new code for the truck, evap something or another. I'll need to look that up

I've been having to fill the fuel tank slowly at the pump and believe it may be related to the check valves under the hood.

Spent a long time chasing down a lack of vacuum

now I have excess pressure

 

It was conveniently loose when I went to take it off yesterday. I'll give everything a once over in the morning

 

Sounds like an excuse to get the scangauge II or the scangauge III

Scangauge III it will have to be. I wouldn't mind the Ultragauge, but I already have the windshield mount for the current Scangauge II.

I gave the exhaust hardware a quick once over, Vband had loosened up a hair and one of the exhaust stud nuts was a smidge loose.

I've got some leftover nylock nuts and almost added one while putting it back together. I'm expecting to replace a couple V Bands in the future, currently using the ones provided by CX but with metal locking nuts.

 

Don't put a nylock on, the nylon melts out and smells like death.

 

I didn't touch the V band today and won't use the nylocks.

Instead we took advantage of the 1st day of fall by filling up the tank to show the Wife and dogs what they missed a couple weeks ago, and to venture beyond.

the trail was still a little bit wet in places but I didn't see nearly as many mushrooms or rain drops

Found a new bird to identify (Clark's Nutcracker)


Shortly after that bird popped up I snagged a few shots of an American Kestrel. I have yet to get a great photo of these little parrot like hawks

These birds and many more seemed to be thriving amongst the standing dead trees left by the Brian Head fire a few years back.




I turned around after taking that picture to see the bright moon cresting the ridge high above us
