4wd System Operation & Help Thread

Now. Truck won’t go into gear. Grinds gears when going back to PARK.

 

If you didn't pull the gear out it shouldn't be.

Hmm it seems it stopped in between low and high, you might need to take it back off and turn the gear manually.

 

Currently stuck in 4LO

 

I think timing is off…gear did come out. After I took it out the second time. Sorry left that out

 

You have to rotate the gear counterclockwise to shift the transfer case back to 2H

 

When I start back up after turning gear counter clock wise. Do I start truck in 2H?

 

I also pinched and broke rubber o ring for actuated cover

 

Yes, fully clockwise and transfer case in 2H the contacts (circled in red) should be inline with the 2H position on the actuator.

 

That's about how my afternoon went at the shop today, nothing wanted to cooperate.

 

I rotated gear counter clock wise till it couldn’t go anymore (without forcing anything) and now it is in 4H. But when I drive forward or reverse. there is loud clanking. sounds like it’s trying to shift.

 

Will it go any further now that you rolled the truck?

 

Button is in 2H. But 4wd light is flashing. Hopefully I can find a replacement for the o ring at Home Depot or auto zone lol

 

Did you get the transfer case shifted back to 2H?

 

How can I confirm that?

 

Should be able to turn the front driveshaft if the transfer case is in 2wd and the ADD is unlocked.

 

Also that clanking is that okay or normal?? Sounds like my transfer case was catching cracks lol

 

Spin front drive shaft freely while truck on ground? Because it doesn’t right now

 

Sounds like it got stuck between ranges for some reason.

 

So either the transfer case or ADD is still engaged, if you can jack up a front wheel and see if you can turn it and if it turns the front driveshaft that would tell you.

 

And if it is stuck in 4H what would be my next step?
