Wait USB-C charger? I though there was only a USB-A port... What? Can you post a photo?

Hmmm, my 2022 has both a USB-A and a USB-C port in the console.

I've had no trouble getting whatever phone I've had to charge on it. Samsung Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S22, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. That being said, the charger is basically 2016 technology when wireless charging was still pretty young and it needed to be generic enough to work for a wide variety of phones.

Wireless charging is inherently pretty inefficient and if you add a case, it is even worse. In these trucks, they're really not good for anything more than a quick top off.

There were a few threads where people tried to make OEM-looking solutions but they were all unsuccessful. The main issue they ran into was finding a way to properly dissipate heat since wireless charging also produces more heat than regular charging.

I’m not talking about an Audi charger, it was obviously a better charging pad (read: newer). If the phone can’t lay relatively flat on the pad in 3rd gen tacomas it won’t charge. Phones with smaller bumps lay flatter than phones with larger bumps.

Qi wireless charging is a funny study in Toyota adoption of technology. Usually, Toyota is delayed in technology but they get it right eventually. Qi charging is a total failure at the get go. Not even close Toyota. That said, the cubby is good.

i have an iphone with a thin protective cover and use the charger every day. i like it. it is a bit slow to charge but acceptable. the location kinda sucks. of the top 10 dislikes of this truck, the charger is not one of them.

Mine works fine on my old ass Samsung S8. Weak, but works well for long drives.

I could never get the Qi wireless charger in my 2017 Tacoma to work on my last iPhone or my current iPhone 14. The phone just doesn't sense the charge. Wired for the win.

Dual climate control is a fantastic feature for folks who prefer different temps than their front seat passenger.

I have had zero issues with mine. Been using it for 7 years. My iPhone 13 charges just fine. I do have to make sure that it is pushed toward the driver side and the edge near the shifter, for it to start charging. I have used no case, a slim case, and a thicker case. And all have charged on it. It will even charge my wife, through a plastic case.

I have found phones in general will charge quicker if switched off.

Maybe, but not relevant for many of us; other than a reboot, I cannot remember the last time my phone wasn't online.

iPhones turn on as soon as you start to charge them.

My iPhone (hate it!) and Samsung Galaxy 21 both have Otterbox cases. They will charge on the Qi charger if put in exactly the right position. That position can be a PITA to find.

If I am going to be in the truck long enough to need to charge my phone, I'm usually plugged in and using Android Auto, so to me, the charging pad is pretty useless.

Turn off or go to sleep screen ? I have charged my 11 for hours to find only 40% charge then turn off and come back in ~ an hour and be 100%.

Plug it in, then turn it off. That said, I don't charge with mine off.

I found that my Tacoma wireless charger works only if I take my iPhone 13 pro out of its protective case. However, it is easier to just use the lightning cable, than it is to keep messing with the protective case.
