Humble and (probably completely) ignorant opinion: revolver. Even in my limited time, I have experienced "jams". My G44 jams (in many creative ways) on some bulk ammunition, but does not on other "less bulk" types. Same powder weight so something else is wrong. My G45 does not jam on any of the ammunition I used, but if I use it long enough ...

Big bad bears and gun jams do not mix well for the people involved. Just my $0.02.

Now I wish I would've gone! I was off of work, so it was kinda dumb to drive like an hour over there, but next time. Perchance.

Someone published a list of calibers used in bear attacks broken down by caliber and bear species
9mm was incredibly high use for grizzly prob cause 9mm is so common.

Personally I'd prob still carry 10mm if given the choice. But if not a 9mm with fmj would do the job preferably with a full size pistol to get most MV/energy possible

It’s been a crazy month, when things are final I’ll fill you in :spy:

I’m gonna be living in marana for a while till I can find a new place in the valley…also playing with the idea of living in show low/pinetop.

All that aside it was nice to get out again, I needed that, good to see you guys.

If you are dealing with a grizzly actively trying to kill you then a shotgun with slugs is best, anything else is a compromise.
Personally a duty grade pistol or revolver whose caliber starts with a 4 seems best for walking around.

Keep in mind with their size and bulk you are looking for a T shot, not center mass,
so how well you shoot matters just as much if not more than the ballistics

I would focus more on understanding safe practices in bear country that nitpicking the gun you carry

Well I got a room if needed while finding a spot if the show low pinetop area ends up working out.

I like the Springfield XDM 10mm. I haven;t shot it yet but I've handled it at the store and man, it has an amazing. trigger and the grip does not feel as beefy as Glock's, also amazing reviews. It is on sale at Sportsmans. https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting...5in-blackod-green-pistol-161-rounds/p/1753942 - I might run and get one.

Too bad I didn't make it last night to meet some of you guys.

Nice to meet you the other night Kevin. Sorry to hear you are having some life difficulties. Hope that all works out in a good way. And be careful on that bike. Those kiddos need their dad.
