hell, my cat chooses violence 90% of the time. when he cuddles, he is the sweetest, little cat. often i walk downstairs in the morning, he will often decide to wrap himself around my leg and bite. or will hook his claws in and try to climb my leg to get up to my arms. my son won't walk shoeless in the house because the cat will attack his feet, but he has bit my wife and daughter on the butt many times!

Last couple days I came down with Covid. Cats stepped up to keep me comfy. Well, Simba did...Shadow just wanted to hang out elsewhere. For a feral cat, we have been slowly converting him.

We finally took Gracie to the vet to have a look at her mobility issues. It's not that we were ignoring the situation, but she came to us two years ago with so many other issues, that once we got her stabilized we just wanted to let her be for awhile. However, over the last month or so we were noticing her limping a little after waking up, and were hearing more clicking from her joints when she walked. The delay was also because our vet left the cats-only clinic where all of our cats are patients, and is now only working a few days per month at her husbands more general (dogs!) practice. We tried to give her replacement doc the benefit of the doubt, but she was not at the same level. After a disappointing visit where the new vet took only one x-ray and recommended solensia at $150 a dose without mentioning any of the side effects, we decided to move on. My wife called the clinic where our old vet is now doing her part-time gig, and as luck would have it she was working that day. She was happy to see Gracie again, and gave her a comprehensive assessment like only a Board Certified Feline Specialist can. She took multiple images and did range of movement tests. She ordered stat labs, and checked everything else you can think of.

Gracie has significant osteoarthritis in her neck and spine, and some in her left front leg (the limp). Her hips and other joints are fine, but her back is really bad. This makes sense to us based on her lack of mobility and flexibility relative to other cats. The plan is again solensia, but at half the price of our old place. She's also going to get meloxicam for the first month or so. Once we get her back off the meloxicam and stabilized on the solensia, we are then going to consider adding adequan to try and reverse some of the damage, or at least to reduce the progression. Gracie is very fragile, so we are all worried about doing too much too fast. However, our vet knows what to monitor and is now only a mile from our house which will make frequent visits for shots and tests much easier to manage. She has agreed to take over as Gracie's primary care vet. She also offered to take on the boys as "new" patients, and we couldn't be happier.

After a very uncomfortable day yesterday, we decided to replace the box that Gracie usually hangs out in with something softer. My wife came home with a new bed, and Gracie moved right in.

Solensia is a miracle drug for cats with significant osteoarthritis. It doesn’t work for all but most cats find great pain relief from it. Our Copper cat has been on it for a year and some days is like a kitten. He can jump up on things that he shouldn’t
and hasn’t been able to for a long time. It generally takes two or three treatments (1 treatment per month)before you see a difference. Makes me feel good knowing that our vet also has her cat on it. Another thing that will help her is to get some raised cat food and water bowls. It not only is easier on cats with arthritis but they make it better for cats with neck and joint pain. In addition the raised bowls support digestive health and reduce digestive issues.
