A V6 is never going to sound like a V8 with any exhaust. Even the legendary second generation Buick Grand National/GNX. It screamed, and it beat contemporary Ferrari's and just about everything else in the 1/4 mile back then, but it didn't sound like a Ferrari. (or a V8 either). It really didn't need to. ;)

It's a six cylinder. Nothing makes it sound good. V8 or V10 makes the right sound. Seriously. When I hear a loud exhaust v6 I snicker because the only one who likes that sound is nobody.

had a flowmaster 40 welded inline and then decided on a Gibson catback. The gibson sounds much better and no drone.

Obviously you have never heard a V8 or A V10 then. A V6 is just not the right sound. Even a 4 cylinder sounds better. Has something to do with harmonics.

No money, all went to truck...
had a flow master on my 1997 4runner. It sounded really nice.

For some reason, 3rd gen Tacomas just don't sound nearly as good as that....

All you have to do is go to YouTube and hear the sounds of different cylinder engines. A Farrari V10 wins.

everybody has heard v8s and 10s. sound is personal preference and just because one sounds better that doesnt mean the other still cant sound good. v10s sound terrible btw.

manifold and crossover design and length play huge parts in exhaust sound. the same 3.5 in a lexus sounds completely different because it has equal length manifolds whereas on a tacoma the drivers side is significantly longer. you can achieve the same sound on the tacoma by making an equal length y pipe. urd and dirty deeds along with another guy on here used to sell them but i havent seen available for a while

being equal length there was decent gains. believe the urd spec u system dynod over 20hp gain if i remember right. eventually i plan to make my own y pipe or x pipe dual setup to get rid of the super low hanging and restrictive y pipe on these and see how it sounds.

Um no. 10% gain due to a simple exhaust mod? They spend billions for a 1% gain. Don't believe the hype.

I had a customer with the TRD exhaust and thought it sounded decent, but I am actually happy with the way my truck sounds stock and it's nice to actually own a relatively quiet vehicle for a change

The 4-banger OEM header is a UEL design, sounds a lot like a WRX, when you replace the stock Prius sounding catback.

Not the best recording and not my video, but I will be bolting this same Magnaflow catback on my 2.7L when I get the time:

...For the V6, it's hard to beat the TRD Pro catback, that thing is the tits.

There are a couple of V6 engines with a nice sound, not the hair dryer like sound of most modern V6s:

Buick Fireball "odd-fire" V6 engine 1962-76, it has a terrific lumpy idle like a cammed up V8.

GMC "big block" V6, 1959-74. These were HD truck only engines from 305 up to a massive 478 cubic inches.

    Detroit Diesel 2 stroke V6, 6V53, 6V71, 6V92 - what a glorious noise!
