jumped out there this morning & trimmed a pear tree over the drive way.

then figured id drop this big dead tree before it kills anymore of my young live trees in the woods next to the house & cows.

lets just say that this was the end of my heavy work for the day. used my 290stihl to wedge it & drop it. it went right where was aiming it. yeah that part was good. only killed 2 small trees with crushing them & broke a couple limbs off here & there. all in all, pretty good for the spread of this tree. it all went to sh*t from there though.

cut it up into a big trunk & several main shoots. was pulling it uphill to get it out where a buddy can come get it for firewood. BROKE a chain id been using for almost 40 years! PaPaw gave me that chain when was learning to drive. no warning, just snapped a link right into! good news is i always tie LOW. so it shot up under the tractor instead of up into my head/back.

broke another tie off chain after that as you see in the pix. doesnt look like much for one tree until i tell you that trunk is 38" across & about 16' long. thats gonna make a good trailer load for him tomorrow. got the grapple on the tractor cause im not lifting nothing else for a bit.

cleaned up my brush & went for an excavator tinker ride after that. setting in the a/c now with the dogs!PXL_20230921_142223067.jpg PXL_20230921_142548801.MP.jpg

In addition to the pats easy change, I'll recommend adding some rear remotes and a hydraulic top link to your tractor. It'll make running the box blade soooo much easier!

Glad you were not injured. I had a pretty bad chain break once and it caved in the side of my 3/4 ton dodge about 5' and 6-9" deep. That was an expensive day and learned a little about chains and shock load. :anonymous:

I love my top link. When you get to wherever in TN you're going be sure to get a tractor with the rear remote option. It's real easy to swap in a hydraulic ram for the top link and it makes using all kinds of implements much easier.

Anyone use one of these stand up zero turns?

Thinking about grabbing one to rehab.

I sure see a lot of pro cutters using them.

Never done one before, but am curious.

I’ve never used one but you see a lot of them being used here as well.

Mechanically they aren't any different than a ZT.
The commercial cutters use them because they are even more efficient than a ZT and you can put more of them on a trailer.

I was well on my way toward purchase of a Wright Stander -- got distracted and bought the truck instead.

For me it would have been yet another case of cool blocking out smart, sure I mow a fair amount - not really enough to justify a $9000 mower though.

:gossip: Still watching for a used one though...

^^^^^^^ yeah Wright is making some very good machines!

but about the "stander" part: yeah the industry is pushing standers right now. BUT: all that jolt goes up thru your feet/knees/spine on those things. at least sitting on the zero its only from the ass up. standing still anywhere or for more than a couple minutes just kills my back.

Wright pioneered the stander mower, they have a weight adjustable suspension platform and are reputed to ride well.
I really want to try one out.

The problem with trying is it rhymes too well with buying.

Remember the old car salesman line "The feel of the wheel seals the deal".

Ferris seems to be the industry leader as far as ZT ride quality, they have suspension on all four wheels - and an eye popping price too. :bananadead:

    I hope I haven't made a huge mistake.

Someone swapped out the fuel injected Kohler for this carbed version.

There are some wiring issues that will need dealt with.

I don't know if it ever ran with the different engine. I'm wondering if they got in over their head and just said the hell with it.

I really only wanted it for the deck. These decks will fit a ZT with a bit of fabrication...anyone know a guy?... I kid.

The unit looks to be well maintained, but really won't know until I start playing with the wiring.

I'm kinda worried that coils are smoked. I have a red wire going to the coil kill wire. You can not have 12v+ going to coils. You will let out the magic smoke.

I won't know for sure until I start ringing out those wires.

If I can get it running, I guess I'll still be looking for a deck. Lol.

Got the unit running. Seems to run just fine...even on the kerosene in the tank.

Had to serve an eviction notice.

Need to get a deck belt then just a matter of running it thru its paces.

Yeah man i really looked close at Ferris for that suspension, but i couldnt make myself do that transmission & pay $20k for it.

same on the new Hustler. $20k & no suspension at all.

so did the new Wright ZXT & got the fully floating operators capsule (as they call it).

like the machine a lot, motor is Phenom & the hydros are pretty strong, just not Hustler strong. Price is several K's below Hustler & Ferris

Talk to your local shelters sometimes they have “barn” cats that are spayed or neutered but not suitable for indoors either because they are afraid of humans or aggressive, nice to have around the property IMHO.
