I live in Chicagoland too and my Lomax (same as weathertech) has been here all 4.5 years with no issues. Never had a problem with ice or snow on it. I snowmobile in Northern WI and its been fine up there even well below 0. On our trips up we'll have gear in the bed and it stays dry.

Truck Bed Side Rail (Right, Rear) - Toyota (66248-04070)
Truck Bed Side Rail (Left, Rear) - Toyota (66249-04050) They are about $135 each. Give your buddy your factory covers in exchange for his factory cutout ones and then keep these new spares in your garage. The rest of the parts in the attached picture you take off his truck—but doesn’t include the 2 rubber grommets from the head rail — don’t forget those. There is a video on YouTube on how to do this and it is very easy. I totaled my 2021 TRD OR and took the parts for my 2023 TRD Pro and I have my new uncut rail covers in my garage. You can also buy new factory cut ones, but your buddy should be glad to have your uncut ones. There is also a thread on here called "OEM tonneau cover install" that will tell you everything that you need to know. Nothing like that factory look and the best part is you do not lose the functionality of your accessory rails. Further, you can even use the bed divider with the mounting hardware upside down.

I really like my Lomax, never had any issues with it and it’s super easy to take off when you need to. It’s holding up great so far and keeps my stuff dry.

Yes, it's nice that it rolls up, doesn't block the rear window and definitely looks cool.

Downsides, 1st one delaminated in the hot AZ sun this past summer and they sent me a replacement under warranty for free. The replacement is sh*t poor quality. I can see each individual slat under the cover unlike the old one like it wasn't glued properly. The end pieces constantly pop off when rolled up and unrolled too.

I'm planning on swapping it with the Lomax or a shell for more storage space.

I'd really suggest you avoid Bakflip and go with the Lomax here...

I thought about a Diamondback but ended up getting an Undercover Armor Flex. I love it. I can fold up all three panels if I need to. And it’s Linex lined on top.

Wow so this was the newer version? I saw complaints about some underside fabric coming off on the older model…the X2.

I’ve seen the backflip; it looks almost exactly the same as the Undercover Flex. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re made in the same factory.

I really llke the Diamondback switchback
The only two things I didn’t like is that the section closest to the bed is fixed and the fact that it is so think and therefore sits about 2 1/2 inches high whereas my Undercover sits flush.

Yes this is the new version; the entire metal slat separated. Correct, older version the fabric on the bottom sides delaminated. We had record temps this past July in AZ 115-119 all month, so I'm sure that didn't help. I've seen YouTube videos showing the x4s tends to freeze solid shut in cold states, so keep that in mind too.

Will the 6' Lomax fold and fit in the back seat of access cab?

I've had at least 3 different covers in a shopping cart since I get Luna in Feb. . .

Lomax for the win! I studied this for a long time, drove my wife nuts over it. Looked at and talked to several people and covers. The Lomax was my choice and I’ve had 0 regrets. When your ready hit up @truckalter for a quote, you won’t be disappointed.

That was the original reason I bought the Solid Fold 2.0. Super easy to remove when you want complete bed access.

Right now, Lomax silver Diamond Plate is my top choice. I don't particularly care for the diamond plate look but I "need" the silver finish which should keep the bed contents cooler than a black cover. At least that's the theory. If they offered the standard smooth lomax in unfinished aluminum without diamond plate it'd probably already be ordered.

I went with an Undercover SE. Looks great, and does lock. Sturdy, and I don't haul much of anything, so it works for me.

Just went with the LOMAX Professional for my 5 foot bed which has diamond plate look and is the "black diamond mist" for a coating. Couldn't be happier and as stated above, contact @truckalter for a quote. You won't be disappointed.
