Many thanks everyone and I appreciate the nice welcome. Everyone please assume I gave everybody a “like” because I don’t have the patience to go through and slam the button on every post!

@McHale - if you can share that information that would be nice but don’t put yourself out. Much appreciated.

In regards to the options I agree. That’s my one sticking point as I really don’t want any of them. “Bare bones” is my style. Everything else I can live with.

I’ll try not to get too long winded here so bear with me. Here’s the thing: I absolutely positively have to have a manual transmission and it’s been incredibly difficult to get my hands on one. I’ve been trying to find an allocation for a very long time.

I’ve been driving three pedal with a stick Toyota Trucks since 1979. I’m sure as hell not stopping now!

In the month of March, these guys said they had a manual Tacoma allocation and it was in metallic grey! I immediately put a small deposit down. They made it clear it would be a long wait but they guaranteed me I had my truck.

Like I said, a few days ago I was informed the truck had a permanent VIN and things were coming to fruition very soon.

In fairness, by car salesman standards, the two fellas I’ve been dealing with have been very decent and have worked hard to make me happy and get me what I want. I’m also not entirely unhappy with the out the door price.

That said, everyone involved (especially me) knows they’ve got me “by the short ones” as after a long and difficult search I finally found my truck. I feel confident that’s where all these add ons are coming from. I knew back in March I was 100% going to buy the darn thing and they knew it too.

On Monday I’m going in to try bump down the prices on accessories. At least a little bit. Thanks for the information everyone. It helps.

In regards to the comments about financing I appreciate the input but that’s not an issue as I’ve got the money and am paying cash. That may be part of the over-accessorizing as well. They’re not making the real money off me.

Thanks again gentlemen and feel free to keep the comments coming. I’ll be keeping you posted.

    Nice to be here.

At $2300.00 they are doubling or tripling their money.
Port add on's you can't avoid.
Dealer add on's, you can have them removed and shop elsewhere.

Ask the finance department to do a plate transfer from your old vehicle trade in (if you have a trade) and you'll get a credit difference of what's remaining on the old vehicle tag and the registration fee of the new truck.

Doc fee's are pure profit for dealers, but you might try and knock them $50 down or so.

    Yes please!
I paid $43,357 OTD in 16’ for a similar package and waited 6weeks. When I mention a MT the salesman laughed and said he hadn’t seen one yet but 3rd gens were new and it is California. :) I did get heated mirrors but not leather trim seats.

I’m still up for a little while so decided to jump in quick and say thanks. Many thanks for the advice but I’m not doing a trade in FYI. The Tacoma I have now I’m still going to keep.

Quick fun story. I bought this one brand new in 1996. 318,000 miles (not a typo!) and it runs like a top. Sure it’s had some repairs but amazingly nothing too major. I have another 1981 manual four speed Toyota Truck (pre-Tacoma) that I’m the original owner of with similar miles, original engine, etc. and it runs like a sewing machine. With proper TLC these things just don’t seem to break! The others I’ve had have either been sold (at respectable prices) or finally put out to pasture.

Sorry, I digress but some may find my stories to be fun information. From my experience if you stay on top of maintenance and pay attention then a Toyota Truck will take very good care of you. I refuse to drive anything else.

Back on point. If I buy this truck just as spec’d at that price it’s not the end of the world and I’ll still be very, very happy. Like anyone though, I just want the fairest deal.

I’ve been poking around a little here and it seems like a fun forum. Thanks again for the welcome. Glad I’m here.

Welcome aboard! You are going to love your Tacoma it looks like a beauty from the paperwork and it will look even better in person!

At this point I would not give one ounce of worry about the dealer add ons. Because not only are you getting a Tacoma with a manual, you are getting the last of the best looking Taco's ever produced and also the end of the generation so all the bugs have been long since worked out.

A soon as I saw pictures of the 4th gen with the gaudy interior and the little corn popper engine I was doubly glad I got a 2022 with a v6 and a manual.

    Congrats, you did great!

    Welcome - and Congratulations!

Well done on the manual gearbox!
That is what it is all about.

I'd take the opportunity to haggle a bit more on the silliest add-ons. Because - why not???

But even if you end up buying as shown you should be happy with the deal.

It is tough to locate a manual gearbox in these beasts. Now just a bit longer to wait and you'll be enjoying your taco!

Not bad. My SR was $31,600 in 2019. I'd get on the list for a 2024 4th gen. The new Tacoma's look very nice. They'll be out in November.

The good part in your case is you know where you can press them.
Oh, that window tint… I can promise you they have a “guy” who does all their vehicles. He’s only going to tint the front windows to match the rear. He’s also using a generic film. Consider asking them to upgrade the film to ceramic. If legal, also do front window and all rear with the clear. You will appreciate not having the scorching heat in the truck.

Hello again friends! I met with my salesperson this morning and thought some would like an update.

I think it went pretty well. Long story short, the dealer add ons were cleared up. In fairness, part of it was a bit of a miscommunication on both our parts. However, I really had (still do but can’t prove it of course) a suspicion that the other part was the fact that I have the money set aside and am paying cash so they were trying to stack it up a bit.

Everyone here already knows this but I’ll say it again anyway. The real profits in vehicle sales nowadays come from the financing more than the actual product. That said, my personality is not to go around bashing people. The dealership I’ve been working with has genuinely been very good to do business with. I wouldn’t hesitate at all to recommend them to my family and friends. They’ve done a good job.

My final out the door price will be a shade under $46,000. I’m satisfied. Not that I wasn’t before of course but now I’m really feeling good!

Thanks for all the replies. The information everyone provided was a big help.

The truck is all built with a VIN. Now it’s just the waiting game. Hopefully it will ship soon and I can get back on here and share a few photos!

Oh! Lastly they had some 2024 Tundras on the lot right out front. My salesperson said they just arrived. No Tacomas yet though. I didn’t check them out but they look pretty sharp. I can just imagine how much they cost though. Yikes!

Thanks again and everyone have a great day.

You did great. On a very similar truck - 2023 TRDOR MT with an odd assortment of addons I got out the door for just under $42k. But I'm in Oregon and we don't have sales tax. I had to have a manual trans and I got lucky here. My local dealer hadn't seen one in over a year so I bought an Electric Lime sparkler from down the coast. Wonderful truck and the MT is the cherry on top.

I may have missed it, what were the dealer installed options they tried to include?

Hello again! I received a phone call over the weekend that something arrived! Before driving off from the dealership, I took a few photos and wanted to share. I realize we all already know what a Tacoma looks like but who doesn't like more photos? Thanks again for all the replies and please assume I've been giving every post here a "like."

Sharp! I've got the same color truck and I love it. And yours is a manual! Very nice.
My two surprises were: 1). Floormats were not included (first time in 40yrs for me), and 2). Only one large key for the tailgate (actually not true as one can use the key in the FOB.

I live in farm country in Upstate NY. I thought, I'd be an outlier with a Toyota, but funny thing: after getting the truck, I see just how popular the Tacoma and Tundra are around here. That and Subaru Outbacks. My wife and I just happen to have one of those too. Two practical vehicles.

Recommend you read your manual cover to cover. :boink:Nah, I mean I read mine over fairly well, but I'm still learning things. There's also good YouTube videos out there.

With winter approaching, and depending on where you live:
If you didn't get floormats, many here, including myself would recommend the Husky X-act contour series or WeatherTech mats.

You might want to consider undercoating if you are in an area where they apply a lot of salt and sand. A worthwhile investment IMHO.

Your challenge: try to keep your upgrades and add-ons to a minimum. It's like a fever most of us catch.

Congrats and welcome. Enjoy your taco. :burnrubber:

Looks awesome- you’re going to love this truck. I like how you were able to combine a manual transmission w LED’s. Bit of a unicorn.

Only thing left to do now is order your bed mat- enjoy!
