Couple questions for you. How did it work out when you charged your truck at the campgrounds? Were you able to still fully power the RV while the truck was charging. How long did it take to charge? Also did you ever charge with just a 120V outlet and if so how long did that take.

No issues at all at the campgrounds running the trailer on the 30a/120v and the truck on the 50a/240v. I had a full charge every morning without problems and a 0-100% charge would take about 16.5 hours (7.6kwh, 32 amps at 240v). I charged on 120v at work a bunch and it works but is much slower (1.44kwh, 12amps at 120v). That’s 0-100% in 90 hours. In a normal work day I’d get about a 10%/27 mile charge.

Thanks. I was wondering what it would be like on vacation either charging at a campground or a VRBO house with just a 120 outlet. Having just the 120 outlet would be tough.

Yep, just 120v is slow and not very useful if you aren’t letting the vehicle sit for a while. That said, a Tesla or other sedan is much more efficient. Where my Rivian could regain about 27 miles in 9 hours at work a Model 3 would regain around 54 miles of range from the same amount of electricity.

This ended up being a partial deciding factor in canceling my Rivian order and instead choosing a Model 3 Performance + 1st Gen Tacoma, which together are less expensive than a Rivian.

I was just reading Motortrends year end review of the Rivian and this line caught my attention:
“All told, Doc was $76,875 as built, though his order went through right before the big price change. Today, a similar but not identical truck would cost $93,600.”
The price increased almost $17,000. WTF!!!

Yep, prices went up in March 2022. The original pricing scheme was from 2017ish and didn’t match the vastly increased cost of materials and labor when the trucks were finally ready for market. The prices of high most end vehicles have been increasing drastically over the last few years. A 2021 TRX base price was $70k and now the exact same base truck in 2024 is $95.5k.

It's a shame we keeping these absurd prices. I guess if you can you will.

    Yeah, it's insane.

I want to say the pre covid the average new car cost was high 30s, in covid that was around $43k, and post covid I think it's near $50k.

    It's insane.

Iirc tesla just took $10,000 off it's model x, but that's still up something like $20,000- $30,000 from when it was introduced.

Tesla is a bad example to use. The Model S Plaid base price was initially $120k when it came out in 2021, went up to $136k in March 2022, and is now $90k. You actually get a better car too as there has been several improvements. Model X Plaid is also down $30k from it's introduction price.

Never liked the rivian. The Tacoma can be mod'ed in so many ways to fit whatever you need too. Rivian just looks ugly. You can't fix ugly
