Isn't d12 considered the best school system?

    I pay 277.00, 4 vehicles.

Point was people coming from out of state usually get a sticker shock.

Dang that’s good to know. How’s the cost of living otherwise? I think in the south gas, tobacco, and food is generally the cheapest.

Gas right now is $3.50/gallon. Food prices are similar to the east coast. I was in northern Virginia last week and groceries were about the same price as in CS.

Run the BAH calculator with your rank to get an idea of what you can afford then check zillow

The Springs isn’t my favorite town in Colorado but it is in close proximity to some cool stuff and is more affordable than many other places in the state. There’s definitely worse places to be sent for work.

Violent weather that will damage your car and home, not much to do if you don’t like drinking, hiking, or biking, houses are expensive for what the town is, Denver isn’t far unless snow cuts you off, ski slopes are further, the airport is a joke, California has taken root, and altitude can be a problem for some.

Agreed. This year I had 125k in hail damages...and that doesn't include my RV that is most likely totaled.

Just wrote a check for 35k yesterday for my roof.

I’ve been here four years and haven’t had my stuff totaled yet. I know people who have had a vehicle/RV/roof smashed yearly though. A lot of it is luck - more than once I’ve left somewhere and a storm hit it a few minutes later with 1”+ hail.

Insurance costs for the entire area are through the roof as a result of huge payouts every year. For about four months of the year in Colorado Springs there are daily thunderstorms with the chance of producing hail that will total cars.

I lived in Briargate and Monument, in Briargate my roof got destroyed twice, my basement flooded, and the cars sitting in my driveway looked like golf balls.

In monument I had blizzards push snow into my attic vents and turn my ceilings into sponges.

So parking both cars in the garage seems like an obvious strategy, but what about the houses? Just shit out of luck? Are newer homes built to withstand this kind of stuff or does it not really matter when it comes to hail?

True, but a 30 minute drive to get to the good places is a lot better than 30 hours.

I've visited the Colorado Springs area multiple times. You could do worse.

Not every year. I've lived here since 1997 and this is the first major hail storm/claim I've done. The higher elevation you live, the bigger the hail and more chances you have. I'm at 7600', so my snow shovels stay out year round.

Anything built in the last 10 years is really bad.

    Avoid St Aubyn.

This was in two bedrooms. State Farm paid me $700 to fix it.

if it was every year, no one could afford to live here. I got only small hail at my house this year and last. The last big hail was I think 5 years ago where I live.

I might have to look into base housing.

I have lived in Colorado Springs for 20 years. It has become overcrowded and has some of the worst drivers in the nation. It smells like marijuana and the people have become more and more rude. (I blame the transplant californians.)

I would find somewhere else to move. The mountains are overrated and there are never any camping spots because they are always getting reserved. If you like high home prices and like to get high in general, then feel free to move here.

If this is not your last duty station and don't plan on staying...I would seriously look at base housing if available.

Seen a house the other day for sale in my hood for a good deal (acreage and spectacular views) for just a shy over a mil.

Now hear me out. You could subdivide a couple 2-3 acre lots and damn near pay off the property.
