That's a special edition right there too, was hand sanding it to try and get a polished look without buying a wheel ;)

Looks like the Hafnium core blew out. See how round the opening looks? Thats the perimeter of the insert.

Did you see any copper looking stain or splatter on any of your cuts? I've had several times when the core blew out and there was a brief issue with cutting but then unbelievably the program would continue and make pretty clean cuts. The copper like splatter was the tip off I had an electrode failure.

I would have said that overheating the electrode caused it, but there is minimal discoloration on that one. If dross clogs the tip opening, even briefly, the electrode can rapidly overheat and the hafnium core may be ejected. Inadequate air pressure for the amperage might also cause it to overheat. This has happened to me even with the better-quality electrodes I've bought. Actually, both time it was some of the better electrodes I had and not my cheaper Amazon or Primeweld ones.

Oh yeah, this was just neglectfully...neglected

I didn't care to replace it when I wired for raw voltage.

But nope, no copper splatter anywhere so it's possible it just blew out onto the metal/water as I run a +30 post flow to keep the torch cooled after every cut. I've never had it go this bad before as I normally just swap them out at about 400 pierces.

Might sound a bit preemptive but I factor that into the parts I sell by adding an extra dollar or two per order. And an electrode and nozzle can last me multiple orders on top of my own personal parts.

What good quality set are you using? I have just always used the PrimeWeld variety.

I'm buying from George's Plasma on Ebay. He says his supplies are not China sourced. I can tell they are better quality just by the appearance, the threading on the electrodes goes into the torch so much smoother, electrodes last longer, the cups last longer and appear more well made... He just has good stuff.

I still buy and use things off Primeweld. But if its a significant piece with mod-long run and many pierces, I swap out for my "good stuff" just to be safe.

BTW, I notified him when the second blew out and told him I was just letting him know in case he got a bad batch (not asking for refund) and he sent me a free bag. He posed the theory of tip clogging causing overheating because my electrode was discolored. He answers tons of questions on LS Forum. Goes by mechanic416.

UNFORTUNATELY, he says after many years he is closing his store after 2023 due to competition from Chinese parts.

Man, I'll have to order some of his consumables before he does then.

I could've seen the name before, I'm on a few LS forums including Corvette and the Z28 ones as well.

You running the Italian-made ones specifically? They come out to only $5 per versus $3 so not much of a difference in price.

    @KRAMERICA

Were the bends on the pieces still square?

And do you think they'll work on a 2nd Gen?

Sorry, I meant Langmuir Systems forum.

He says his consumables are Italian made, as well as the TECMO machine torch he sells. He says the machine torch from Primeweld has an Italian torch but Chinese cable. I'm okay with that as my PW machine torch has been just fine.

I have noticed though the cheap consumables sometimes don't want to screw into the torch so I am very careful not to cross thread them.

Already knew about the torch and cabling; they used some high quality stuff on the machine torch so more than "good enough" for me.

Never had that problem though with cheap consumables not screwing on, then again I'm assuming you mean the PrimeWeld consumables when you say cheap.

Yep, perfectly square. They arrived in good shape.

I'm not sure when I'll get them welded up:welder:, but I'd say the holes line up great for the 2nd Gen. I'm not sure which way they should face, what do y'all think?

    Damn, still perfect!

I'd run them as shown in picture #2 that way there's room to hook anything to when needed for the tie downs

Unless you won't use them, then use it as shown in picture #3

No, I meant he should just buy a setup.

I'll sell mine once my buddy decides to sell his; he's looking at getting a 5' x 10'

Too much coin currently. Sticking to the good ole magnets, clamps, and tack welding stuff in place until getting things lined out lol
