Dude, that's epic. I would have loved to see one on take off, though I was a bit young in '85/'86.

That's nice that they still let you use vacation after notice. Where I'm at, if you give notice all your vacation and sick pay is locked unless previously arranged.

@FlyingWolfe happy for you. Great feeling to walk away when they know they can’t be what they should be without you, and they still didn’t make it happen.

700 miles on the bike this weekend. Absolutely perfect weather all weekend. The roads are just amazing. Even slept ok.
    And now….Monday. :annoyed:

Fair point. I don't plan to quit, but if I do the only reason I'd give notice is because my direct supervisor doesn't suck. If it were in the other department I was in, exactly 0% chance of me give more notice than telling that supervisor what I thought and dropping my keys on my way out the door.

So since everyone wants to do that stupid chalk test I figured I’d raise the bar.
I did a dirt test on my trailer I aligned last year.

I visited in the mornings at school with a former KC-135 flight engineer, who was based at Minot AFB and we'd both grin when people would arrive at school with their students, complaining, "It's cold!" It's a lot warmer than Grand Forks AFB, but my friend said of Minot, "We could see the Turtle Mountains!" I showed him the photo I found of a KC-135A (905th ARefS, 319th BW from GFAFB taken in 1975, ~3 years after Dad retired and we moved west to where the snow/rain come straight down) and he told me that it was taken at Mildenhall, or "Moldy Hall" the outlying base next door and accessible to all the amenities at Lakenheath. Dad trained in C-130E models at Pope and Sewart in '68 before his 16-month tour in SEA (and told me he made sure he got the letter of 12 months service in Vietnam, as many of those who served from out-country bases were later called to serve 12 months in VN).

It would be easier to find a Lycoming T-53... All those UH-1 engines were more plentiful than the T-55 Chinook turbines, and a T-53 would be a better fit in the Tacoma/Tundra... Unlimited Hydroplane racers are finding the T-55 scarce, but the owners make exceptions to allow a lighter boat to race with a T53, and another racing with the Allison V1710 (twin turbochargers, out of Fort Wayne, IN). I found it interesting that "Heinemann's Hotrod" A-4 Skyhawk was built with the turbine of the GAM-77 Hound Dog missile carried by the B-52. That's an image: a B-52 with an A-4 on each wing pylon; that might be lighter than an X-15.
