does anybody know what length bolts are needed to mount Apache 9800's to a Grand Teton?

    similar to:

    I am looking at:
    -drop in t-nut, x8
    -bonded washer, x8
    -hex bolt, x8

but I've got no idea which hex bolt:
    1/2”, 5/8”, 9/16", 3/4", 1”
or if Home Depot would have it (probably not)

Finally got mine installed. I feel like the bolts for the feet that go into the t nuts aren't super secure but we'll see if they vibrate loose. Feels solid though, just have to get some new weather stripping for the gaps

ok got it installed, sounds like the wind fairing is vibrating off the roof when i get over 60mph. i had it adjusted all the way forward, did it. shifted it all the way backwards, still did it. i have witness marks on everything to see if anything came loose, nothing. sherpa doesn't have any answers for me, but they're blaming the fact that i have a half fairing and no light on the "wind noise." any ideas before i take this off and throw it in the garbage?

Did you reinstall the rubber strip? Those could be loose and vibrating in the wind. Had that happen. Otherwise, it very well could be that you have half the fairing and no light bar as the wind would be hitting those crossbars.

Install a light bar and see if it goes away. Or get the full fairing.

i didn't cut and install the drip channel strips yet so not those.

i don't have a light bar to install, i was undecided on that. and sherpa doesn't have any full fairings in stock. so i think right now i need to take the whole thing off until i figure out what i'm doing so i can at least drive the truck again

Try process of elimination. Remove the fairing and see what happens.
On another note, I received mine yesterday. Haven’t installed yet but I’m so stoked. Build quality is second to none. Even the packaging is excellent. I went with the anodized aluminum full fairing as I think it goes well with my silver tacoma.

Exact same thing happened to me on the sport. Try loosening the middle fairing brace. Mine still does it but it only starts at 73mph now

oh you have the sport too? did you tell sherpa?
do you mean loosen it where it attaches to the fairing, or to the cross bar?

Yes I have a sport! I basically got it to go away by loosening all the bolts on the faring. Try the T nut that attaches to the cross bar for the faring brace first then try the 5 bolts on the faring. But only just a tiny bit, make sure they’re still tight. Their spec is 35 inch lbs and it’s very easy to hand tighten past that

I'm gonna tinker with it tonight to see if I can figure anything out. I'd want it to be completely solved though regardless of the speed

Update: it's definitely the wind fairing, because without it that vibration goes away. I can live with the wind noise, but now it's making my map lights vibrate which is annoying

A suggestion for a temporary fix. 3 layers of Black gorilla tape applied to the cut-out might fix the fairing from vibrating. Try it. Temporari fix until you get to install the light bar.

Did you get the noise to go away? I forgot to mention to make sure you got the BONDED washers for the mounts into the rubber blocks. They sent me just standard washers in the sealed kit of hardware. Pretty big oversight honestly since the top part of the mount would be a major source of water intrusion

Here's mine. Its plain aluminum. I love it. No issues at freeway speeds. Im even surprised because there's not much wind noise. Here's the mandatory pics

I think I figured the fairing vibration issue . Easy fix. I found out that the bolt that was used to attach the fairing to the crossbar is a tad long. I tapped the fairing with my fingers and I can hear it vibrate. ( did this out of curiosity. My roof rack doesn’t make a vibrating noise when driving at and speed ) . I placed an old cut to credit card between the fairing and crossbar and it no longer make a sound when tapped. Try this for easy fix.

Oh do you mean like it's not able to be tightened enough because if it's length?

Or maybe the space between the bolts allowed some vibration. I just placed some old cut up CC fo fill up the tiny space and no more vibrating sound when I tapped the fairing with my fingers

Good to know. I'm going to take the whole thing off until the new fairing gets here. Sherpa thinks that because I don't have a light yet it's causing more vibration. I think the center bracket for the full fairing is different
