Hi everyone, I just bought a new 2023 SR5 last week. I love this truck, but I notice when the AC runs, it will be ice cold for about 30 seconds, then not so cold for about 30 seconds, and continue to cycle back and forth. It happens as I’m driving and stopped at lights. I have both sides synced and am not using the auto feature, I just turn on the fan with the AC. Recirculate is on also. I live in Florida and it is still in the 90s here. Is it normal for the temperature to fluctuate like that while it’s running? The cabin still gets cool but as it’s blowing on me I can definitely feel it changing back and forth. The air coming out doesn’t get warm, but goes from ice cold to noticeably less cold. I just came from a Corolla and it never did this, but I know this is a very different vehicle. I researched and found a few posts of this happening on earlier years, like 2015. Was just curious if this is normal or if anyone else has seen this? Thanks

Normal. Run recirculate to help cabin cooler

thanks! I wondered if I should bring it back and have them check it out, but I don’t want them to tear into it if there’s actually nothing wrong lol.

Mine has done this since new. I wouldn’t worry about it I believe it’s from the compressor cycling on and off and the speed of the fan in engine bays ability to cool

There’s a TSB for some experiencing a lack of cooling when stopped, it involves adding an electric fan in front of the condenser to keep air moving.
Occasionally when idling on a really hot day, I’ll have some decline, but I’d rather this, than to add the fan.

My cabin temps stay solid, even in the 5 weeks of triple digit temps we had last month. Compressor will cycle but the air temps coming out of the vents aren't noted be me.

While we're on the subject of a/c...
    Just a suggestion,
A mod to do is the "a/c drain hose mod" to help prevent possible frame rust.

Thanks. Just curious, how do you know when the compressor is cycling? Can you hear it?

Good to know, thanks. I heard something about this. I will have to look into it.

Yes. During most operations it'll just seamlessly operate in the background, but if you're parked and idling you can notice it kicking on and off and if the system is functioning as it should your cabin temps should not fluctuate.

How much of a fluctuation are we talking temp wise because some fluctuation is normal, say 5-8*C as the compressor cycles but it could also be tripping the high side switch which I believe has a tsb out. You'd have to get gauges on it though to see whats actually going on though
