LOL as I have said before, the cover that TW people think is the absolute greatest tonneau ever built in the history of mankind (insert cover name here ..... "for the win"!) is the one that they purchased. With such objective feedback, how can you go wrong!

Another vote for the Lomax. I got mine from @GotExhaust

The transaction was perfect. The installation was very straightforward, and the cover still looks and functions perfectly after 2 northern New England winters.

Two positives about the Lomax are:
    1) you retain full functionality of your accessory rails (and can even use the OEM Toyota bed extender) with the cover

    2) a single person can remove the cover completely without tools if full bed access is needed.

I guess if full bed access was a routine I might select a different model such as the Bakflip which folded up completely, but that is such a rarity for me it wasn’t worth it.

Just giving my opinion to help someone make an informed decision. I believe that is what this forum is for. Or is just for hurling negativity? Sad that some people are so down in their lives.

I plan on getting a hard-cover trifold eventually, but we were going camping the very weekend after I got the truck and wifey was insistent we get something quick. Got the Tyger tri-fold soft cover - like $220 which was covered by Amazon points - and installed it the very day I picked up the truck. The Tyger is excellent for the price. Still haven't found my forever tonneau yet, mostly because I haven't been looking. Tyger is doing its job just great.

Installed the BAK F-1 yesterday. The build quality is good. Fit and finish is good. The hard FRP exterior panels are fairly tough and the construction is pretty much how any quality composite / foam core panel is assembled. The channel extrusions are well done. . The mounting rails allowed me to retain the stock cargo rails (The BAK rail brackets relocate the stock rails down approximately 2.5” below their original elevation) I am not a huge fan of the texture and glossy-ish finish of the F-1 but I knew that going in and it was a trade off. I work in composites and wanted the FRP exterior for its ding resistance and stiffness. Its not motley looking, I just would prefer smooth and dull for a finish option. The texture helps break the shine a bit. Oh well. Yet another compromise to gack down. The sealing mechanics seem like they should work and remain durable. There are drains located at the front of the locating frame that send any retained water collected at the front truck-rail-intersection out through a hose that is supplied in the kit (7/8” hole is drilled through liner) operating the cover is a snap. The latches are good quality and the segments snap into place with a strong preload into the seals. The latching is particularly well done and for me, that is right where a lot of problems would likely start and a great place to have the design well worked out. I feel like this cover will suit my needs and offer minimal ownership headaches. Let’s throw the dice now and see how it goes.

Hello. Just throwing in my opinion as I was also torn. Ill keep it short as many opinions have flown in on the subject. I wanted flexibility of use and design with some security in mind. A low profile looks real clean. Was torn between the 4 panel Rough Country and Bak. I settled on the Bak M4. I didn’t put on all the gaskets and its pretty dry for the most part. Keep in mind there are many cover on the market and you get what you pay for. Good Luck with the decision.

If after all the feedback you’re still unsure, I’d recommend looking on the secondary market so you don’t spend full price on something you may not like and can easily resell.

Just curious, how do these hard covers allow access to the optional front rail when open? And, don't the hard covers take up bed space when accordianed? I think I might have made up a word there.

I thought it might bother me, the height, but it doesn't reduce my view any since the glass of the window already sits 2 inches above the bed anyway.

And F-1 Bakfkip leaks like screen door in a hurricane.. I took the truck through a touchless wash after allowing the new top a full hot to cold cycle in the sun to set the rubber a little. Looks like I will need to shim the side rails and do some strategic weather-stripping. So says the google electorate. This makes me a tad pissy. I selected this model and accepted the bathroom stall finish of the FRP panels specifically to minimize water intrusion issues. It looks like this does happen occasionally and there are some fixes out there that guys end up doing to get them sealed well. Ok. Fine. I will keep the think tank here updated as to
the final solution, or the putting the sumbitch back into the box for return and the getting of a Lomax. I do have a full shop and access to a variety of seals, foam strips and other assorted inelegant fixes for a should not be problem.

Just don't get the Bakflip X4S. It will damage your tailgate cap when you shut it. I called bakflip and they are aware of the problem. It's a manufacturing defect that they will not address. I should have gone with Lomax.

Im feeling the Lomax as well. I just did a light check. Well there are two spots that are super apparent to seal up in the front corners. I will start there and see how it goes.
