Hooting Sound on Acceleration from Stop

I have a new '23 SR5 with the 2.7L engine. From a stop, when accelerating, I occasionally hear what sounds like an owl hooting for a brief period of time. My '17 SR with the 2.7L engine did the same thing. Is this the notorious evaporator core sound I'm dealing with? And if so, why on earth could Toyota not have addressed this over a 6 year period of time?

 

Does it only do it with the A/C on?

If so it's a feature/quirk of 3rd gens for which there is no remedy

 

there's no fix because it's normal operation of the system. just how it was designed.

Is it actually with a/c or defroster on or are you hearing the air rush through the intake when you snap the gas pedal and take off

 

Honestly, I haven't driven the truck without the A/C on, so I'll check to see if it only does it when the A/C is running. Surprising they didn't address what seems to be a known issue. I guess if it doesn't impact performance in any way, it's not really an "issue," but rather an annoyance.

 

The evaporator noise is a high-pitched sound that happens as your RPMs increase and approach your next gear shift when you are accelerating. There is a TSB out on it (T-SB-0004-22) if it really annoys you that much. It happens maybe about 20% of the time in my truck and is not going to cause a failure. I chose not to have mine done because I don't have a single rattle in the dashboard, and tearing it apart to replace the evaporator seems like a good way to end up with a few.

 

My truck had th TSB done eons ago and it still does the sound.

There is no fix for it.
