A relative of mine recently acquired a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD that had 33s and he noticed that they are rubbing when turning into driveways and such. I don’t know much about trucks but I would love to hear tips on how to fix this.

Wheel size with offset? Tire size? Any spacers?

Trimming some of the plastic around the inner fenders may help but if they take the truck off road at all you will probably need a cab mount chop. Those look like extremely wide tires to me, not the usual 285/75/16 or 285/75/17’s which are the more common 33’s and are easier to fit.

My understanding is that the only 33 that fits without a lift and doesn't rub is 255/85/R16 ... on a TRD Off Road. That appears to be a Sport, so probably 17" wheels, I haven't researched that.

That is a wide 33 for sure. My 285/75/17s still rub a tad when pushed up inside the well, and those are considerably wider than my (technically) 33s. I have 2.5"/3" lift as well

No spacers, Tires are Nitto Mud Grapplers 33x12.50R20LT 114 Q. I think it’s 40mm offset I’m not too sure.

That's a lot of tire. Good luck.

It is. A 12.50 is a super wide tire for a Taco. Nearly a full 2" total wider than mine, and I still rub at full lock and compression with a lift, CMC and pinch.

Any tires you recommend so I can relay the info. Truck will mostly be on roads only.

265/65R17s and 265/70R16s are generally OEM with the exception of the 18 inch tires, so if it's driven on road only, most any AT tire in those sizes would likely work.
It would then be down to tire brand preference.

Switching out those 12 1/2" wide tires will also likely gain your relative some MPGs as well.

Whenever someone asks for recommendations for a on-road tire, I see people recommend the Michelin defenders a lot.

I do a fair amount of off roading so I don’t have any experience with them but they seem to have great reviews. I have 265/75/16 tires and still get great MPGs.

Basically anything would be better for on-road driving than a 12” wide mud tire on a Tacoma lol that’s a massively wide tire for these trucks.

He can sell those wheels and tires and return to stock size or something reasonably slightly larger. I'm sure you can find options that will work here on the forum. On 16 inch wheels, 265/75/R16 works well.

That's what I'd do. Better ride, less noise, better MPGs and NO rubbing
