Would appreciate any input on this

I just got 4.88 revolution gears on my 23 Tacoma and I have a whine when decelerating from 45-25 mph. It’s barely noticeable. But it’s there. Shop says it’s normal and that these trucks whine.

it isn’t really that bad but I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

It’s been a very long time since I have done anything with a differential but I was always under the impression that if they whined it was because of a clearance issue of the ring and pinion gears.

ya same here. But revolution says there should be no whine at all. But then again when I spoke to someone else form revolution they said it’s normal for a little whine but only common in Toyotas

I have 10k on my 4.88s from Revolution Gears. No gear whine here at all. What I will say is that after your regear, you’re gonna be paranoid about any sound that sounds off. At least I was. Worse case, take it back to the shop that did the regear for you. I know I had to take mine back once for the front diff not seated properly.

Lots of gears whine, including a lot from the factory

ya i took it back..they said everything is good..and that the whine is normal. your right.. been paranoid for noise since i got it done.. i may be overthinking it. but i paid for a service..and i want to know if the whine is normal or if the service was not done correc.t because if it wasnt done correctly they got to re do it.

I had a noticeable whine when I put 5.29 Yukon gears in my '13 reg cab. They said it was normal. It got a little better after break in and the gear oil was changed. Did tons of wheeling in that truck. After many years and miles the sound never changed, so I didn't worry about it. Picked up a '16 a few months back and put polished Nitro 5.29 gears in it. They have been silent.

    One more anecdotal report:

I have 25k miles on Yukon 5.29 gears that were installed by EGSC (highly reputable gear shop), and I had some minor whine/noise at first on deceleration between 65-55 mph. Not sure how exactly long it lasted, but I don't hear it at anymore. I have the 8.75" E locker rear diff, and while mine never made noise from the factory, I'm told this particular model/design is more prone to noise than others.
