Is my truck totaled?

I passed out behind the wheel and drove into a road sign. The damage seems to be confined to just that front passenger side, but this is my first accident so I don’t have a good point of reference. Trucks currently in a repair shop in the sticks of nh awaiting inspection from insurance, but I had to come back home to ny in the meantime. Wondering if it’s gonna be worth the trip back up. Thanks!

 

Hood is bent, front side panel ... not cheap. Front passenger tire may be knocked out of "straight" ... could just be the photo. Headlight assembly is not cheap, wiring work is mostly labor. Front lower passenger frame may have damage.

Wait for the post-mortem, my advice.

this was actually the embarrassing, and now costly, work of a panic attack. Did have to do field sobriety tho

 

year, model, options, and mileage are going to determine value compared against the estimated repairs.

Passing out due to a medical reason/condition is scary as fuck.

I didn't say anything positive/negative cause I figured you'd just state what happened on your own accord; glad you walked away from it.

Doesn't look totaled to me. Since you have to replace the bumper, now would be a great time to find a solid aftermarket front bumper. It'll probably be cheaper than OEM and offer much better protection.

 

That truck may be totaled because insurance companies are totaling vehicles that can easily be repaired. And your truck will be repaired and on the road eventually. It's a given with damage like that. Your truck is exactly what rebuilders are looking for.

 

Thanks, me too. It’s a 2020 just shy of 60,000 miles. Last appraisal I got from the dealership put it at about $25,000. Not sure if that helps (I know I’m gonna have to wait for the insurance to know for sure, but I just wanna brace myself)

 

For reference, when I hit a dear earlier this year, this was ruled as not being totaled.

 

I have replaced more front-end parts in the name of upgrades than you have broken, so no, not totaled.

I'm surprised your fender didn't fold up like paper mache - it's literally lighter than the bubblewrap packaging it comes in.

 

Dealers don't give honest appraisals. They are in business to make money... and giving as little for trade-ins as possible is part of how they make money. You can look up a better value through Kelly Blue Book and usually they are low on popular vehicles.

Figured as much. I didn’t really take it too seriously when the guy handed me the slip; I’m a woman in a car dealership so I kinda sensed that anything they hand me with a dollar sign on it is gonna be a way to try to cheat me out haha. Could be a good thing for me in this case, though, if the actual value of my truck is greater than I thought. I’ll try to find out the true value.

That it was, I wish it hadn’t of happened, obviously for my truck’s sake and yes, even for the dear.
I put on an ARB immediately after the accident, so the totaling will only be given from here on out.

 

Probably a 6 digit repair bill and maybe loss of driving privileges by a court unless you have a doctor sign off proving this was a one time medical condition type thing. I think insurance requires repair bill to exceed a specific percentage of the vehicles value to total it out. (40%, 50%, depends on insurance company).

 

I was riding my bicycle at night once when a deer ran across the place my bike would have been in 1-2 seconds. I think I might have been totaled if the timing was different.
