Interesting to point out the CA thing; must've just been where she was used to getting gas cause having lived and visited all over CA I've never seen a gas station that wasn't self-serve.

They have full service pumps in CA? Never seen one.

Requiring someone to pump your gas is stupid. About time Oregon repealed it. Although in NJ they don’t seem to really care if you pump your own. I usually just get out of the car and make a joke about how I hate filling up in NJ.

Probably some fancy Beverly Hills station where gas is $10/gallon :burp:

Even there it's in the what, $6-7.

Out past Big Sur it's like $8 at a specific Chevron but that's because they're the only gas station for miles away from town and you got all your hippie wannabes living their #vanlife with surfboards on top and Yeti stickers plastered all over.

Yeah I've never seen a full service pump in CA whether Nor Cal, So Cal, or Central.

I've worked at a station for over 15 years and we have a full time attendant. I can tell you the dispensers and equipment don't get damaged as much when somebody is paying attention and helping out.
Customers are careless and impatient. They drive off with the nozzle in their tank, drop shit on the ground, yank the hose couplers apart and beat on stuff. Also, they can't sit in their car for 15 minutes playing on their phone after they're done pumping. It keeps the traffic moving and keeps the pumps open for the next person.

My boss is more than happy to pay an employee to keep an eye on his equipment, that stuff is expensive

Cheapest I saw in LA last week was $5.80. Got the full “LA experience” as well. Would not return to the station

Gas was easily $6.50 at normal stations. In a place like Beverly Hills or DTLA it could definitely be $8 as well.

Those things don't always go back together easily. Especially after dragging the hose through the parking lot

    It's complicated.
A local Fred Meyer gas station designated 3 of their pumps as self-serve, seemingly to psuedo-comply with the new law. Oddly enough, those 3 pumps could only service vehicles with the gas tank fill door on the passenger side.

It only last about a month before they were forced to make exactly 1/2 of their pumps self-serve--and include driver-side fill pumps as well.

    Dickheads.

Thank you. I couldn't figure out how to select it to fill it up. I have done it travelling in other states, but I knew something wasn't the same here. I have just been putting in $40 because I knew it would all fit.

Perhaps the out of work gas pumpers can get work at Walmart watching me scan and bag my own groceries from their comfy stool over judgement they perch on.

How common is this in Oregon? I’ve filled up plenty of times in the state and never been asked to enter an amount.

At the station that I use the most, when it asks for an amount, I just hit the enter key without entering amount and it works fine.

In Nebraska, we used to have stations that gave you either option, but the full service came with the informal obligation to tip. First time in OR, and I tipped the attendant like a fool. Next time I needed gas, just drove over the Columbia River. Problem solved.

Yeah, don't tip. It's like feeding the stray cats, the homeless, or tipping everyone under the sun that thinks they deserve a handout. What really needs to happen if we can pump our own gas in Oregon is have these pumps be 24/7 w/o attendants so it doesn't matter what time I get gas. Portland people would somehow, someway figure out how to screw that up for everyone though.

We have an attendant at our station. One of the benefits is it keeps people from camping out in front of the pump while they fiddle around on their phone or roll a blunt
