I bet the jamb is twisted , ie the corners of the jambs and therefore the plane of the hinges of the 2 doors are not coplanar

you can check it by taking 4 thumb tacks and a string line

open the doors fully , put a pin in each corner of the jamb where the weatherstripping mounts / door closes against . Run a string across each thumb tack so the string makes an X across the opening . If the jambs were installed correctly , the strings should just touch in the middle of the opening

 

Ill look into this tomorrow, if the jam is twisted would reframing the entire thing be required?

So grandma called me today and said the outlets didn't work in the kitchen and dining room. Finished spraying the basement and went up and over the mountain to the house. Got there and everything seemed to work? Hmm. Found an outlet that the air conditioner was plugged in to (with heavy duty appliance extension cord) was really warm. Well that's weird. The night light and end of the cord was sorta melted so I went off to the hardware store for a heavy duty 20 amp outlet.

Removed the outlet and this is what I found...



Had to go back to my house for some 12/2 to splice in and wire it correctly.

It got a little warm...



No more appliance cord. I'll add a cut in box and separate circuit for the air conditioner.

 

Grandma lucky.

 

For sure. No matter what the issue woulda been the owner of the house is in rough shape between cancer treatments and surgery, I had to take care of it. If I had to knock a hole in the wall, he would understand completely.

The bad part about gmas house is it isn't the first burned up receptacle I've come across. I lived there 5 years before she moved in. Replaced several back-stabbed outlets and burnt ones. Thought I got them all, but this was the only one that had a higher amperage draw with a HD cord. I'm betting it has just been cooking for a whole. I'll remedy that situation before she needs AC again.

 

Looking for some plumbing advice here. I'm prepping to install a water filtration system and will be switching some/most of the existing plumbing to PEX. In doing so, I can't overlook the main supply. Well water system and assuming original, home was built in 1950.

I believe the main line is polyethylene (slightly recessed in wall) with 3/4" OD(?) and transitions to 3/4" copper through some kind of rubber coupler and hose clamps - can't imagine this is "correct". What is the best way to properly transition from poly line to PEX, also considering the 90 degree turn. Initial thoughts are a barb to MNPT fitting for the poly line, and a 90 degree FMPT to barb fitting to the PEX line. I can always add a NPT coupler between the two for length, as I don't know how deep into the block wall the supply line ends.

Anyone have experience with barbed fittings for poly line?
