I build/repair/resell tech/phones/etc but primarily (desktop) computers. Started at probably 9 years old setting up flip phones & doing Windows upgrades in my neighborhood & have built up from there. My meat and potatoes is niche enthusiast stuff in a college town where I'm basically the sole local provider (de-lidding CPUs, CWC upkeep & setup, component level repair, liquid metal installation, custom stuff, etc) but I can always turn a box of off-lease laptops into some money. I also haul scrap, pull trailers, move cars, house moving, etc.

With the steam deck, if your expectation is access to an incredible library of your existing, already owned games (especially indie or 5~ years old) with decent performance, you will be beyond thrilled and I cannot recommend it enough. Can't overstate how much I use it, in part because save suspension is so good that I can truly pick it up, put it down, pick it up, put it down, etc over an extremely extended period without issue. But, if your expectation is playing modern AAA games at higher settings you will probably be let down. I play a lot of Forza (Horizon 4), with a slight OC & undervolt I can manage 45-60fps at native res, medium ish. Minimums above 40. I do get occasional frame buffer issues but that's more 'gaming on linux' than the steam deck.

I do try my best, lol. A lot of the time it isn't good enough with time constraints, but I do very much try. We're lucky to have the women we do still yet, it very much is a team effort to raise a kiddo nowadays. How old is your little one?

    Dude that's awesome.

Depending on the time of day, you'll catch some of us nerding out over PC shit...specifically older stuff.

@Speedytech7 has an old Mac on his way I found on Facebook, but he's got plenty of goodies himself already.

I still want do an older (not old) build as I'm down to a 9800 GTX practically new in box and an E8400. Current PC is a 12400 with 3080.

And no I wouldn't expect to run 265hz, ultra settings etc on a Steam Deck  I own a Switch and it's even less powerful in handheld mode, but still enjoyable with the few titles I'd actually play.

Back to the woman comment, and I'll use this to reply to @Bandido above, it's only because of an encouraging wife that I got to pursue a hobby I always wanted to get into. Not only because of financial reasons, but because of just the overwhelming mutual support I received.

Being a SAHD is awesome, and since then I bought more tools in a short time frame than my time before that

Little dude is about to be 6 months old; @Tour991 is on the same page as we had our kids just like a week apart or so.

I need to grab some 3/16" steel...but feeling kind of lazy about it.

Found out I had a Z axis issue cause it was binding (after I cut the table top) causing the notches to be slightly smaller.

Fortunately, just cycling through it got it to move smoothly again. Need to grind down a few tabs on these slats, and for the remaining 7 I knocked off 1/16" off each side of each tab so they drop in easily once I cut them out.

How empty does your life have to be to be gleeful about work?
Usually I roll into work a few minutes "late" so it's park, set the sunshades in the car, and head in. But when I'm accidentally early I am in no rush to get in the building.

I dunno, this dude is like a Golden Retriever but as a person. Turns out the attributes of a Golden Retriever when applied to a human being make them entirely insufferable.

Most dog personalities as a human would not be good. If your roommate yelled like mad whenever someone walked by the house.... or was licking his butthole next to the table while you're having dinner...
