I collect old Macs! Really into G3/G4/G5 era PPC stuff, especially PowerBooks and iBooks. Some favorites are my prototypes in a 466MHz Clamshell (FCC testing phase), 2.5GHz Quad G5 (ATi-badged testing machine), and a 2008 15" MBP (regulations testing, UK/EU market, from Ireland) stuffed with internal data & software. Really, Apple in the era of my childhood is my niche.

If you're building an older enthusiast machine and are in need of any components, please feel free to drop me a line, I have tons mostly centered around S775 to S1155 era as well as similarly aged enthusiast/workstation platforms.

That's exactly it. We're so effing blessed to have support systems and be able to chase things down that we're passionate about, it's not a given in this era to have a supportive, kind, encouraging wife/partner/whatever. You seem to feel quite lucky & you very much should!

That's awesome. Mine will be 11 months on the 1st. Is he your first? You won't know what hit you. My little one went from not being able to roll to standing, crawling at mach speed, using some extremely basic sign language, rolling in a spiral to make himself laugh, etc in absolutely no time and it's like 'fuck, where has the time gone'. Best thing in the world.

 

Uncle J has been banned for like 3 years now, why would he have a grudge with him anyway?

Yo, same. I've got machines from the 68040 era to the G4 ear. Pretty much every all in one. I wasn't even a big Mac user ever but I find them fascinating.

Fuck me dude, you'll be able to nerd out more about Mac with these guys than me.

I grew up playing with Macs but only at school; had MS Dos then Windows at home.

If I asked anyone for anything pc related, it'd have to be an install of Windows like XP or similar; something for the older machine that I can run older games with. Heck I still have my Diablo II game discs as well.

Dude I can't wait til he's up and running but more so he can just follow me everywhere but you're right time is going by way too fast.

They can literally go from not rolling over one day to rolling over non-stop the next; his personality has already been showing and each day is a surprise all while asking him to stop growing; it's way too quick

But yeah he's our first, and only. At our age, one is enough!

 

Are you in Low End Mac/similar groups or anything? Pretty decent chance we've come across each other. That's exactly it for me funny enough, I wasn't a Mac user at all. We struggled a lot as I grew up & I was extremely envious of my friends who had Macs at their house and such. Would go to the library and read books about OSes and Mac software just to be able to experience them some more in a way, it was my fascination. Friends of my parents & our family started giving me old stuff as it came out of use, and I was hooked from my very first 450MHz graphite tower. At like 11/12 I decided I was going to own all those things one day, and now I do own the vast majority of them. My girlfriend while supportive doesn't really understand why we have cupboards full of 20 year old computers, lol.
