I also have no idea. But my ankles feel way safer in the Tech 7s than in my Formas..

I almost bought 7's but went for a mild ADV boot, Klim GTX.

I wanted comfort, and like you say, if its gonna break its gonna break. The pins on the ankles do reduce chance of injury.

I think I'm gonna limit my trail runs and go more discovery.

I had Forma Adventure tall. They were nice, waterproof too. But kept reading about more protection. So I upgraded to Tech 7 Enduro Drystar.

Yeah, definitely a step up from ADV boots, but not as rigid as an MX boot. I actually tried on some of the Tech boots (I don't remember which ones) and they are made for legs with tiny calves. I'm fat, but my calves don't carry any of the lard, but the velcro was still an inch or two shy of even touching, let alone being able to close the boot.

I think if I do more trails next year I might try to find a set of used MX boots, I'm so torn with this whole dual sport thing. ADV Gear is heavy for the street, and light for a trail.

Ideally I'd have a dirt bike and a road bike twin, but two bikes is not in the cards right now.

I feel you. I need gear l that I can ride 200 miles on highway and be protected, but not be too hot in moderate two track..

I'm guessing his Tech 7's are an enduro boot. Enduro boots have a more robust/profiled sole for better grip as you're crossing obstacles, MX boots are slightly more rigid and protective as they're designed to take crashes better, and have a flatter sole for better feel, but protection shouldn't be too much of a difference.

All I'll say is when i went to the MX track in my SIDI Crossfires, I crashed multiple times, getting my leg trapped under the bike a couple times. Not even a bruise. To my understanding SIDI and Gaerne are the top of the line.

I know it was an AT, just commenting on the weight of a more robust ADV bike vs my current Husky.

Yeah I can only imagine it was stuck somehow on a raised or lowered section.

Tech 7's are true MX boots just like tech 10's. The biggest difference is the hinge is symmetrical on the tech 10's while the tech 7's have an asymmetrical pivot IIRC. The tech 10's also have an inner boot I believe to minimize movement at the ankle within the boot. They are NOT adv boots. The only thing that distinguishes them as "enduro" vs the regular tech 7 mx boot is the enduro sole vs the smooth MX sole. IMO based on where his breaks are even a tech 10 wouldn't have done shit there as the breakages aren't ankle related.

I carefully went back and forth between SG-12's and the tech 7's and ultimately the tech 7's won out due to a more compact "sole", the waterproofing drystar layer, and enduro soles but I would say rigidity feel wise they felt similar.

Nice! Always good to have a simple truck for utility use. What's the drivetrain on that?
