Is there a way to test the oil cooler?

I’m asking if you replace these 3 bearings behind the timing cover,
Remove the timing cover and use the stethoscope your answer will be there hopefully

 

ok. Timing belt job (water pump, pulleys, etc) was done in April of ‘19. Geesh! I am seeing how I wasn’t as specific as I thought in my post. I put 4/19…. & just belts….

So I need to focus on the bearings behind the timing cover….

So if all the drive belts are off and its still making noise ….it has to be something in the timing cover I would think.

 

The Aisin kit John linked has all the parts suggested to replace- idler pulleys, tensioner, etc when doing the timing belt. I haven’t had a timing belt idler pulley go bad, always replace them anyway, but have had a water pump gasket fail right before the time to do the timing belt. Started to weep close to the thermostat housing, which is typical, good place to look for a leak. Back in the day before the metal gasket I used FIPG, the current metal water pump gasket is better.

The Aisin kit is the best for the money, not sure if you used another brand, but it’s Japanese made, pretty much OEM=best parts

Looks like thermostat gasket, if so obviously an easier fix, though might be coming from where water pump attaches to the block. I’d run it up to operating temp and see if it’s weeping anywhere.A lot of the time I’ve seen the water pump start to leak it’s near where the thermostat housing and water pump housing portions meet, yours looks like it’s possibly doing it on top and the water is running to where the t stat housing bolts to the water pump.

When they switched to the metal and rubber gasket from fipg it seemed to be an improvement, less leaks. Not sure if the water pump kit you put in had the newer gasket

 

I used a kit with the aisin pump. Can’t recall what gasket it had. I did see that if there’s pitting, you’re better off with the fpg & the right stuff.

That whine sounds like it’s coming from the #1 idler tensioner, so I guess, especially given the leak, I’ll be doing the belt kit. Last time I had hands on help. I’ll be solo this time.

Oddly though, I couldn’t hear the rattle. The fan pulley was removed, however it still feels healthy. Where the ps bracket hooks into it was secure….
