For sure man. Yeah, I misunderstood you the first time and thought you didn't think the content was also about his mother.

It's specifically about how his mother was stricken sick and confined to a wheelchair for approximately 10,000 days (thus the name of the album). He's been bitter at god for years over her illness despite her unwavering faith. (see A Perfect Circle's "Judith")

    Back to 10,000 days...
You're the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fists at the gates saying:
    "I've come home now!
Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father.
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.
    It's time now!
    My time now!
Give me my, give me my wings!"

Completely about his mother. Basically a big "I suffered through the shitpile life you handed me and I stayed faithful. Give me my fucking wings!" to god.

Haven't been able to hear that without crying since my buddy and lieutenant's funeral. I use to just think it was an awesome song when done on pipes. That's on my list for sure.and possibly A.D.I.D.A.S by Korn

For me, the first is obvious and the second is more along the lines of how I live my life.

I played collective soul-Maybe when a friend of mine passed....

    The sky now divides
To bring you back into the fold
    Welcome home
    Still my need to recognize
    Any comfort you may show
    Only grows
And guess, I'll learn to accommodate
While my heart just sits and waits
    Maybe God, you found
Maybe is all that you can offer now
    Offer now
Where am I to take refuge
When the storms of pain release?
    Shelter me
    This blessedness of life
Sometimes brings me to my knees
    I call on thee
I have not the words to write
    A farewell to you tonight
    Maybe God, you found
Maybe is all that you can offer now
    Offer now
Well, I know hearts are weeping
While your voice is now singing
    On high
    Angel on high
I have not the words to write
    A farewell to you tonight
    Maybe God, you found
Maybe is all that you can offer now
    Offer now
    Maybe God, you found
Maybe is all that you can offer now
    Offer now

i would also do a van morrison song (not brown eyed girl). not real sure which one, but there's plenty of great songs on "moondance" and "astral weeks" to go out on.

I love the first modest mouse album, definitely some good "final songs" in there.

The ocean breaths salty verse when it says "When Time and Life shook hands and said goodbye" always makes me wonder.....

Carry me down by Demon Hunter is also another kick ass final

it is great. a lady who was really an equivalent grandmother of mine died when i was a little boy. she was scottish decent and at her burial there were like 6 guys, kilts and all bagpipes playing it while walking through the graveyard near the grave at the end of the ceremony. it was beautiful, still gives me the chills, but it was amazing.

I don't think it's weird haha....I've thought about it before (though I am quite weird myself).

I want GOOD music played at my funeral...not this garbage that plays on the radio today.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ca6B2uMCoc

^I picked that because there's a Taco in the video hahaha...and because I love the song.

I also don't want a normal funeral. I want my family and best friends to have a party and enjoy themselves, and I want to be thrown out of an airplane or something crazy like that.
