Engine Braking vs Brake Pad Costs

just wondering what kind of math would be used? this is an impossible ? to answer.....happy friday

 

This is how I got 100k two times in a row from the disc brakes and 160k once (I traded at 240k) on my Corolla.

 

What kind of math? The kind that makes you recognize it is past your bedtime.

Thank you all for your input! I'll stick with my hybrid method: decelerating via engine braking when I first see traffic/red light, then mixing in my pads as I get closer, then switch to full pads/neutral for the full stop.

Marshall R., you raise a good point: I can see how engine-braking is second nature to those who live in mountainous areas, and optional to us flat landers

Once had a guy working for us that claimed to know how to drive a manual. He burnt up the clutch on a new 2500 Chevy in 1 day. His defense was “well back home we burn the clutch to save the brakes”


I was assigned to re-educate him. That was fun… 3 times my age and a former lawyer…

 

I've seen teenage drivers fry their piston rings because they would engine break with their manual transmission car. I'm not talking about a Jake brake

 

some will never get-it, this defiantly sounds like one of em

 

He did okay, till he got fired for other idiocy

 

Sorry, not buying. Unless someone is winding the engine out well past redline, the rings are a non-issue.

 

LOL, then there was the afternoon I rode my bicycle from Mammoth Lakes to Bishop (and back); I think I coasted at over 50 mph for nearly a half-hour. The way back up wasn't quite as quick.

 

Its just my 2¢ on the matter
