I just did the Rubicon with Nick last month. He does not treat that truck well. If bending lowers was going to be an issue he would have figured that out by now.

The extra clearance from the 40s probably helps the matter but you get the point.

I'm pretty sure Nick did a podcast with some dudes and they discussed why he uses a 12" shock. He's explained it to me but I would do a horrible job a reciting the reasoning.

From the pics, it looks like the upper shock mounts are the real limiting factor which he could probably squeeze a 14" in there if he did a redesign and moved the upper shock mount into the little cubby in the front of the bed like the JD kit does.

I'll try to find the podcast.

Uptravel wise, the panhard and the upper link are next in line (like .25") from bottoming out on the frame. I believe hes going to come out with a more traditional pocket trailing arm to fit a 14 but with the same shock tower, and also towers into the bed sometime.

Right, I see that but a 14" shock is like 3" longer TLG than a 12". The gain would be down travel if he were able to fit the longer shock and not sacrifice any bump travel.

Pretty much would be just a traditional trailing arm with shock bolt in the centerline of the link, as the shock bolt right now is 2.4" above centerline. For me I could care less about more frame uptravel, just less clearance in the rocks

I might've already mentioned this but if I were to do it over, I would do the war fab tie rod sleeves with oem tie rods on my previous setup, solely because it would be easier to keep a boot on there and keep grime out. They weren't available at the time though.

yah I did chat with you on that and DID purchase a set of War Fab Sleeves. Def keeping grim and such out is a factor for the multi-use of the truck.

I keep going back to whether or not I want to go with solid while I am int here. Basically will all be beefed but the tierods and inners. YOu and a few others though like or run the OEM version. @EatSleepTacos

I'm having JD do my entire truck soon and I've decided to leave the steering rack and inners the same while switching to 934 CVs. I'll run the WarTab tie rod sleeves and if I blow a rack one day I'll go the Tundra route with JD's heimed rods and clevis but.. one problem at a time.

You could always run what you already have. Install everything and just reuse the tie rods and war fab sleeves and see how you like it. If it's not meeting your needs, upgrade in the future.

yah that makes sense. I DO Still have to go back and look at the front axles but haven't had issues there yet. Rear so far has held up but steering sucks. Bent the rear axle so I figured the front steering and axles are not far behind. The TC Howe setup will make the steering nice but also more on the all the part combined. Tundra rack i have already. to sleeve or solid is the next. after that either JD 934's or RCVs were on a short list.

Do those work with tie rod extensions on LT kits? Not aware if they do or not.

A solid tierod kit means Nothing without the JDFab Slider kit. There's a lot of shaft deflection going and not much tolerance between the Heim Clevis Adapter thingy and the inner diameter of the Rack and Pinion housing that causes damage and premature seal wear.

I ran a solid tierod setup for a few years way back in the day, but eventually took it off because of the tolerance problems and no solution for a fix. Now there's finally a fix..The JDFab Slider kit AND the Solid TieRod Kit is on my short of things to do in the near future.

This was the All-Pro Offroad (the OG All-Pro, not the Trail-Gear All-Pro) Solid TieRod Kit that they offerd from 2010-2013 or so.. you can see the fuckedup housing and seal leak..

I have a Tundra rack that I'm putting on my Tacoma, and am thinking of modifying my JD slide rack to fit it since I already have it. Then I have the best of both and the option to add hydro assist to the slide rack later on

I believe 74Weld is working on a new rack. Perhaps a whole new under engine cross member should be created so we can run a rack from Howe. Better yet a rolling chassis with TTB from Ohhchotab.
