With the canbus, no. I wired exactely how they illustrated in their instructions.
Without the canbus, instead of using the + & - from the backup lights I used a switched power source and ground. That switch was from my outgoing backup camera set up.

In your picture if you wired it exactly "With" a Canbus it has no ground and the camera will not work. Especially if you have the camera mounted to plastic. Might work if you have it mounted to metal though.

I got it figured out. I checked for ground or lack of and found that the camera was grounded in each wiring scenario. So the ground wasn't the issue. I then looked at the third illustration on the Amazon page for the camera. This one is for "if you bought the front camera too." I noticed the red wire (with the male RCA) from the backup camera supplied power to the front camera. My thought was to connect this red wire with the (+) reverse light wire and then to a 12v power source. I would then connect the pinkish/purpleish wire to the back wire. I put the car in reverse and the camera worked! I then connected my toggle switch and the camera worked without putting the truck in reverse. It's 96 with the relative humidity of 67 in my garage which makes it like 120. I'll run everything tomorrow morning before it gets Africa hot again.

I'm hoping someone can give me some insight. I'm fairly interested in the 10" but according to the website, that is only offered as an older model. It seems the newer ones only come in a 9" with the knob or 11". Would you guys recommend sticking with the newer model because of the specs or are they similar enough to where I'd be fine going with the 10" older model? My concern is the hu losing support too soon because I choose an older model.

Why not just keep using your factory rear camera?

There is a mount on ebay it's listed for the Tundra. I'm not sure if it fits (maybe someone else can confirm) but it appears to be similar based on the pictures then maybe you can adapt the joying camera to the mount. Just a thought as i'm not familiar with the Joying camera or the mount from ebay.

well I had an issue on Friday, haven't gotten around to trying to handle it myself or taking the truck in.

Headunit worked fine on the way to work Friday morning....once I got in the car to drive home after the day, it still seemed to work fine, but no audio played whatsoever. Carplay connected fine, startup was fine, rebooted many times. Simply couldn't play any sounds to the speakers...not carplay, not bluetooth, not the presaved audio files that came on the headunit, not radio, not even the touch tone when pressing through the menu/headunit that I turned back on to test it.

I'm thinking a connection just came loose somewhere in the back of the headunit, so I'm thinking it's easy enough to tackle on my own since all of you guys have installed it yourselves. Would be nice to avoid a trip to the shop I had install it if possible. But figure i'd post it here in case anyone else had this happen.

Could be a connection, but sounds more like a setting has changed. To pull the head unit out and check takes about 10-20 min max. Just remove the A/C controls, then pull the screen out, disconnect the ribbon cable and pull straight out on the unit. It's only held in with 4 clips.
Good luck with figuring it out and let us know what it is.

Hm I just don't know what setting could have changed, I don't touch my headunit at all really except for the volume control since CarPlay starts up on it's own.

Hoping I'll have some time tonight to get in there myself, sounds easy enough.

    Yes
Has anyone had any issues with the 'apps' button not working? I have the 10.1" (listed here) and I recently went into the settings and adjusted the brightness levels and changed the startup logo. After doing that, the app button no longer works. I can click on it, but it just returns to the home screen as soon as click on it.

In this photo, its the button on the bottom right that I circled. It would usually bring up the screen on the bottom, but it just goes blank and then returns to the home screen.

    upload_2023-9-27_8-33-31.png

I reverted the settings back to what they were before with no success. Ive rebooted the radio and also disconnected the battery with no luck. Anyone ever experience a similar issue? I've got a video I'll see if I can upload later to show exactly what its doing...

Welp I got into the headunit, none of the connections were loose. Still no sounds.

Got an email out to Joying to inquire about it, at the moment not sure if I should take it back to the shop that installed it, or the shop I had do my audio, since there are upgraded speakers in the doors, a sub, amp, and line out converter. But those have all been installed for 4 years with no issues, so I'm really leaning toward a faulty headunit, unless Joying or someone in here can clue me in on a setting that might have changed. I tried going through the menu and couldn't see anything that might be causing it.

I've got a question for those that have converted over to this unit. with the option of the cameras. Has anyone installed the new rear camera in the factory location? Is this possible? What have you done to incorporate the camera so it doesn't look like an add on?

    Little update on this...

Joying got back to my email, at first they suggested pulling the headunit and hooking it up to car battery and an external speaker to see if it would play sound then. That was around 9PM, so I was planning to do it today, but they then emailed shortly after to let me know that it may be a problem with the main deck (motherboard). The offered to send me a new one with a deposit, I assume meaning they would refund me once the old one was sent back.

That said I'm not too electrically inclined and wouldn't feel comfortable doing that sort of repair. I replied and asked if they would send an entire new headunit to swap out. Unfortunately they just went on vacation until October 5th so I may not hear from them until after.

Not ideal but I'm hoping they won't be too difficult about replacing the unit. We'll see.

I have seen others open the unit to place heatsinks on the main board chip, I don't remember exactly but the MOBO replacement might be all plug and play with just some screws holding it in the chassis. I need to google and see if I can find the images I saw a few months ago.

Hm if it's just plug and play with screws i'd be fine fixing that. Definitely don't wanna have to solder or anything like that...this would be my first time and not sure I want my headunit to be the guinea pig.

I'll have to wait to hear back from them on oct 5th though, unless someone in here has had a similar issue.

I understand completely, I googled heatsink in Joying head unit and saw the double din units, while I am making an assumption they are assembled close to the same, I cannot be sure. What I saw was plug and play with 4 or 5 small screws holding the main/MOBO in place. Google heatsink in Joying head unit and see what you think. If nothing else it might provide enough info for more question depending on their Oct 5th reply.

Good luck and let us know what happens.
