I feel that I have had really bad wear and life on my pair too. 26k on my set and they are about the same. But, I have also had a difficult time with alignment and feather wear on these tires. I have a feeling that it is related to not being able to dial in the correct tire pressure for my set.

@hyrule_trd has this problem, I hope he doesn’t mind me tagging him. I don’t have any personal experience with the ST Maxx’s.

not at all, you can tag me in almost any thread here.

My tire wear has been bad too and I thought it was due to missing rotations or a bad alignment. Have you two rotated every 5K miles?
This is during my last rotation, I may have missed one or two and have about 20k miles on mine. I’ll need to either get 2 new or used tires with more tread at some point.

I ordered mine through Big O so I had free rotations, did them every 4-5k and had probably at least 2 maybe as many as four alignments done in the 20,000 miles or so. Was running them between 36-38 psi. They wore evenly but very fast. All four of my tires look nearly as low in the center tread as yours pictured on the left @hyrule_trd. These were by far the most expensive tires I have bought in my lifetime and although I really liked most everything about them in terms of look and performance, the lack of longevity after spending so much has me looking other directions. I may go away from skinnies all together as there’s just not many options especially with 16in wheels and as mentioned this tire size is quite expensive.

    Here’s 255/85/16 Falken Wildpeak M/T 01

Just want to thank this thread for the inspiration to go with a skinny tire. I did a lot of research and I decided this was best for me. So I went for it.

Also Shout out Jordan from Discount Tire on the forum for helping me out with the order. Couldn’t be any easier getting tires. Just show up pay and get em on the truck within 45 mins. Amazing. Took my old tires to run for winter since they have a lot of tread life left. Win. win.

Couldn’t be happier and looking forward to a long trip due October to test them out.

I’m looking for skinny dedicated winter tire recommendations.

What is the tallest skinny tire that will work on the OEM suspension and 16” wheels on my ‘23 OR DCLB?

There aren’t really any good winter options for a 16” wheel.

Everything is a mud tire except for the St Maxx (which would probably be the best option for winter given the choices). If you switch to a 17” inch wheel you will have a lot more 33” skinny options, including a lot of 3PMS rated tires.

Yep same, only because of the tire options though. If a tire company came out with a 255/85/16 all terrain tire, they would make an absolute killing.

@Diggle the Nokian Hakkapelitta LT3 seems to get high marks by many forum members. You can get it studded or non studded. Firestone has the Winterforce LT, and General has the Artic Studded. Product availability is seasonal. Shoot us a DM if you would like our assistance.

Skinny tires will wear faster. Think about it, there is just less material contacting the road. There is just less tire. Compare it to whittling a stick. Which takes longer to whittle down, a big stick or a small one? The stick is your tire and the knife is the road.

Do you have experience with skinny tires or is this an assumption? I don’t think tires can be compared to sticks.

Pizza cutters actually have a larger contact patch then wide tires. I don’t see them wearing down any faster. If anything they should wear more evenly across the entire tread, from side block to side block.

I agree. I can’t imagine that the speed at which a tires’ tread wears down has anything to do with width…it depends on tread depth, compound, proper alignment specs, terrain driven. A lot of variables but I can’t possibly see width having an effect.
