Have you ever had an issue connecting an OBDII scan tool?

Does your check engine light come on and do the "bulb" check when you turn the ignition on?

No issue connecting to a scan tool. I have a P0402 code now so check engine light is on. I can reset it with my scan tool but it comes back

Does the autotool gauge power up at all?

mmm a '99 should be ODBII and not ODB.

How do you know you have a P0402 ? Did an auto parts shop run a scan for you?

Clearing the code does not fix the problem- An P0402 indicates that there is something wrong with the EGR system- you need to fix that for the code and light to go away.

I ran it with a scan tool. I understand clearing the code doesn't fix the problem. I plan on getting it looked at but for now I'm trying to find an OBD 2 gage to provide coolant temperature data (among other data) as my temp gage doesn't work, the sending unit is bad and I can't get it out without wringing it off. I bought an Auto Tool X 60 but it won't sync up. I need a recommendation on an OBD 2 gage that will work with my 99 Tacoma

I would reach out to the manufacturer of the Auto Tool gauge. It could be faulty, especially since you said a regular scantool works and your check engine light works.

If it's something you plan on running constantly for data like that, then I'd suggest either a scan gauge II or ultra gauge. I personally run a SCII :notsure:

I have a scan gauge II in my first gen as well, but what I'm trying to figure out is why the gauge he has won't connect. If that one is having problems, then a scan gauge may have the same issue due to an issue with the truck, not the gauge. Trying to troubleshoot here but it's difficult without the info...

I tried the auto tool x60 on my 2018 Ram. Connected with no issue but not terribly accurate - but did connect. Tried the 1999 tacoma again - Connect Failure.

@Robqueen , do you have a friend with a scan gauge II that you can borrow. I keep one connected at all times so that I can keep an eye on Transmission Temp, actual water temp and volts. I switch the last option back and forth between mpg and what actual speed my computer says the trucks is going. It's a very hand tool to have.
