Hi Guys for those who drive 6speed manual transmission on tacoma with sort shifter from URD, are you guys have problem with back up camera doesn't showing on the back or turn on but you don't have problem with reverse gear to back up.
Basicly I don't have problem to back it up my truck but my rear camera won't turn on and I got frustrated about it. Is it because sort shifter?
Any idea to fix it whitout have to back to OEM shifter. Thank you guys

Remove connector of reverse switch. Using a jumper wire test the circuit.

I don't think is switch reverse problem bc without the engine run the reverse camera is work only when engine run doesn't work. It's more like the shifter doesn't push reverse switch or something.

What I mean in here is without engine turn on I put my key in at position on and shift my stick to reverse gear and my rear camera is on but once I crack the engine my rear camera doesn't turn on.
Sorry make you lost man..... btw you know where I can find reverse switch is on the trans?

Do the reverse lamps work when the camera is off?
Check the switch and the wiring for loose connection.

Reverse switch is on the passenger side of the manual transmission.

I'm thinking a severed wire, it shakes loose at engine ON. NO movement/shacking while ign switch is ON with engine OFF.

I have a 2010 Taco with a manual transmission that had a bad connection in the rear camera wire under the rear bumper entering the tale gate. The camera would sometimes fail to work after closing or opening the tailgate, so I suspected the tailgate wires were the issue.

My camera is located in my rear view mirror. So I turned the ignition to accessories (without starting the engine), shifted it in reverse, opened the back tale gate and wiggled the wire harness entering the tailgate and the image in my rear view mirror flickered on and off.

So I removed the tape and plastic covering around the wires to search for the short but couldn't locate it. So I plugged the wires back in under the bumper connector with the 4 wires exposed and had my neighbor keep and eye on the camera as I wiggled each wire till I located the one causing the issue. We couldn't find the loose wire causing the issue so I decided to tightly tape the entire length of the wires together up to the tailgate entrance point, replaced the plastic covering, then taped the covering. The camera always works now each time I open and close the tailgate. Hope this helps!

Thank you man for sharing that....appreciate it!

Are you use sort shifter URD?

I didn't have problem with the wire camera more like each time I put reserve gear I have to wiggle it to make sure my rear camera is on but lately nothing happen even I wiggle it... like mechanism inside trans doesn't push reverse switch but I need investigate more when my day off.

I don't see the short shifter having anything to do with your issue.

It could be the switch itself.

No I have an Automatic and two titanium knees...

Alright guys after check the wire and connector everything right and tight nothing wrong with that, I even hot wire it with paper clipper and it's work.
Problem go down to reverse switch, I take it out from Trans and check it with multimeter is working perfectly, after while to think I end up put my pinky finger on the hole where the reserve switch is.
There's a thing to push the switch inside Trans but doesn't pushing down enough for switch to engage, if I install back the switch without washer and everything is work fine but I don't want it start leak Trans oil soon, so I just make the washer thinner by hit with hammer and install back and problem solve.
Now everything work perfectly... Thank you guys for the input and help.

Those switches wear in time. I had to replace mine a couple of months ago. It's pretty common.
    I bought mine from RockAuto.
