Will definitely put you first on the list; I love just how nice fitting the laser cut set was.

Finally got the roof rack 99% mocked up from the drawing in my head. Turns out I don’t love it in person. Back to tweaking and random splices until I like it lol. Then I’ll build one using the old one to pull measurements from and make it a lot nicer.

the *goal* was to have a tube roof rack with a full set of round lights across the front. 6-7 lights that are 6” a piece. But I wanted the lights low. Not high like 90% of the ones in the market. But making the transition work from the roof to the windshield is kicking my ass lol.

Just minutes from home, and where I've gotten some free and cheap steel from too!

But what are you talking about, I'm not bending tube like a badass over there!

All the parts I make are laser cut. Definitely prefer it over plasma. Water jet has been the best quality I've used but it's expensive af and not as easy to get as the laser parts.

    Dang how come?

The parts you use can easily be knocked out on plasma and it'll be accurate AF.

They're expensive in general; local laser cutting tends to be way cheaper.

the fab shop foreman at my work that does all the difficult stainless steel dump truck modifications uses only flux core stainless wire with standard mig shielding gas. i don't know if it's a preference or a requirement. i got the distinct impression it's more of a 'him' thing than a quality thing, but it seems to turn out plenty fine. though this is all 1/8" minimum stuff, normally 1/4-3/8" stainless

Flux just penetrates better in general.

As for using gas, not a requirement but that's what we call dual shield; it burns soooo nice and clean.

My first parts that I had made were cut on a water jet so when I got my parts cut on a plasma there was a noticeable difference in the cut quality. I just didn't like plasma.

Found a local laser cutter that did parts for me once and the quality was much better than plasma but the second time I went back they wanted to put a 500 part minimum on on my orders and I just don't do that type of volume.

Now one of my fishing buddies does my larger orders but he's about an hour from me so I use sendcutsend for small pieces.

Damn, you met someone who's setup wasn't dialed in

Here are some parts I cut on plasma myself

(my parts on the left first time, mimicking the assembly on the right)

Your parts only consist of a squarish shape and a hole? Just saying...it's super easy to do.

I’m strongly considering a laser table over a plasma at the next place we move. Wasn’t even aware of the cut difference until ordering laser cut parts this year for the first time. Seems spendy to upkeep but would save time and make more money as well.

Laser cutting is nice, kinda like TIG. Not everyone needs that kind of cut or welds.

Laser has it's place, but us knuckle draggers can get some damn fine cuts with plasma.

I don't make much jewelry, so plasma is what I stick to.
