    Parking is expensive. Square footage needed in Austin for example, land prices means you'll be living above the barn. Good news is the excrement is a fuel source for home heating.

    Here is why I am personally looking forward to a more-electric automobile future.

    Gas locally (southern CA) has jumped $1/gallon. No doubt the oil companies will say this due to Hurricane Ian, on the other side of the continent. This gas was already made, from oil bought at a lower price. It’s not even made in the same refineries as Florida gas. Why did it go up? Not taxes, not a sudden burst of local demand. Simply because the oil industry has an effective monopoly and can raise prices for any reason they want.

    Why is the relevant to EVs? Because my electricity today costs the same as it did yesterday, last week, last month. EVs and Electric utilities (which are essentially monopolies as well) can at least have us competing one monopoly with another and give us alternatives in the automotive market.

    That’s good for everyone.

    Full disclosure, we have a Rav4 Prime on order. The best of both worlds (42 mile electric range, gas backup), the worst of both worlds (oil changes, valves, pistons, batteries, spark plugs and batteries).

    If an EV isn’t in your future, cool, you do you. But do realize the EVs at least bring some level of competition to the oil companies that we have subsidized for the last 100 years and are happily making record profit….at your expense.

    And you will continue to subsidize the monopolies for the next hundred years - both electric and oil. You don’t get a choice there. At least embrace some type of competition between them.

    So.. 5 to 6 is going up 20%.

    Huh - the difference between a southern california edison 53c/kwh peak rate and a 33c/kwh off peak rate .. that's more like a 50% diff tbh.

    Using my Rav's milage (2.8mi/kWh) - 53c/kwh == 5.2miles / dollar .. $6/gal gas @ 40mpg == 6.6 miles/dollar.
    Obviously if I only used offpeak electricity (and bought from SCE, or had the right subsidized plan..) it'd be 8.4 miles per dollar.

    I like my R4P. But I also can do math. Don't charge it during peak hours, if you're paying for the juice.

    :p You can install a few panels, I mean at least in most places in Cali you get way better insolation than I.

    I have a 6.5kw solar. It rocks, I get 10MW annually. I have SCE and (intentionally) do not do ToD as I have older children at home and they don’t read the clock.

    Glad you like the R4P. I have passed on my F150 lightning reservation ($80k for an XLT, nope). We have also passed on an ID.4 (nice vehicle, no backlit controls and better half had range anxiety with BEV). The ID.4 or R4P choice was hers as that is going to be her vehicle.

    I’ll continue with the Tacoma while I see what comes next.

    But those stories don't pop up in his FB "news" feed. The algorithm knows what kind of clickbait he likes.

    No report of car fire, but the batteries causing a hazard could indicate that there was a fire. If I had to guess. Two guys in a car crash into a light pole around 00:00, 1 dead 1 transported to the hospital that DUI was a factor.

    No, I have to find them on my own.
