Montana Tune day. Had to break out the canopy and heater to keep customers warm and dry! Great meeting everyone. Will post up reviews after a Week or so in the tune. Initial impressions.

Thanks for the great review @CheckM3te! Always great to meet new folks and Brad was another one. He had a great looking 2017 Tacoma on an older version of the KDMax Pro. We updated him to the KDMax 10.0 on the Sport Throttle. He was happy with the improvements on the KDMax tune. Really nice guy with a sweet truck….in a town that I have spent a lot of time in growing up.

 

I’ve had tunes starting with the original Ovtune and many since. I’ll say 10.0 is the best by far. Finally the truck feels somewhat normal. This really took the driveability to the next level. The truck just floats on the highway now and doesn’t feel like I am towing an anchor. The shifts are less chaotic and much more predictable. I actually enjoy driving it now.

 

Western Slope Tuning continues to provide top notch services to Toyota owners on the Western Slope of Colorado. Xi took advantage of the October special for in-person KDMax Pro tuning services and brought me his 2022 Tacoma on this rainy afternoon. Like many owners of these trucks, he was frustrated with the lack of power and erratic shifting the factory tune provides. Has anyone experienced a different when you disconnect the battery, with the feel of the truck after?

I did, and noticed a distinct difference in engine braking going downhill. It was far worse then before....

I had to downshift way more to keep speed under control.

To.be clear, I am NOT blaming the tune.... just curious if it's something to do with the ecu being reset and " forgetting" the tune in a way?

 

This is more likely to be learned values being cleared than any effect on the tune. The tuning process is writing to non-volatile memory. It can’t be cleared as a result of power loss, but there are learned value stored in the ECU and TCU that may well clear if power to those computers is cut. I would expect the truck will return to normal after you’ve driven it for a bit (probably a few hundred miles). If the opportunity arises to do so safely, give her a few gradual wide open throttle pulls. That will help the learning process along. If any issues persist after a few hundred miles, ping your tuner for a reflash of the tune. Hope that helps! Let us know if you need anything else!

 

Planning on doing a tune not sure which just yet. I have a 2.7 and drive it in S mode 4 in town and then S mode 5 on the highway. Does anyone still use the S mode after the tune

 

My truck is a 6 cylinder, and of course I’m now a tuner for KDMax, but I started as a customer and the only time I use S mode since the tune is when I’m towing or I want to manually trigger a downshift for engine braking.

 

After the tune, you should be able to ride in Drive with a stronger, smoother, and predictable truck. The tune will make drivability improvements that make driving in Drive more enjoyable. SMode will still be an option if that’s what you prefer. It will also be improved.

I love SMode....I do leverage it for real work when towing also but just around town I kick it in when it want to enjoy the truck and some level of manual interaction. The truck really opens up!
