3G4R Front Diff / Clamshell Swap??

Was wondering if any has done a front diff swap from a 3rd gen 4runner into a 1st gen tacoma or vise versa. I have found a front diff assembly w/ elocker out of a 98 4runner and want to swap the whole setup into my (non e-locker) front end. Let me know if anyone has done anything like this, or have info on it. Thanks.

 

3rd Gen 4Runners do not have an e-locker in the front and never have, nor do any 1st Gen Tacoma's. If it's aftermarket, well then you just have to trust what gearing it has from the seller.

What you want/need is to match the gear ratio to your rear. Of course you can always count that anyway.

If it's good to go, then swap the whole thing.

100% aftermarket if it's locked whether it's an e-locker or even a lunchbox locker.

But your question was mainly if a 3rd Gen 4R front diff works on a 1st Gen Tacoma; yes they're the same.

Good opportunity to replace the bushings on the arms/mounts for when you install it to your truck.

 

Not to mention grabbing the drain and fill plugs from my signature.

The hex plugs suck that come from the factory and are prone to stripping easily.

Mine have the electric engage actuator... sort like the elocker crap

The answer would be, how much is he asking? If it's under 400, it's not an elocker.

Harrop elock locker is 1k+

they are 14’s going 16’s next year. But will be throwing them thru the fenders and bed. Hoping to be sitting about 1.25 inches lower than I am currently.
