I am on the Tundra FB groups and there is not hardly a day that goes by that one or two dead in the water trucks are posted. It's almost like a badge of honor at this point. Tundra used car posts will have to include if the engine has been rebuilt or not in the future..lol

Wow. This is a disturbing posture for a Toyota.

I've purchased several brand new Toyota (Celica, Tacomas, Corolla, scion XA) vehicles in n the past 25 years. The Tacoma (my first one) was the best lasting 375k before my son wrecked it (RIP). The Scion XA was a really good little vehicle as well getting up over 150k with minimal maintenance and zero issues. My Celica had some issues, however some of those were likely because I was re-engineering the car and driving it like a moron... but even still I had that car for 170k.
I just always viewed Toyota as a very reliable vehicle that you wouldn't have any real issues with so long as you maintain it regularly. An engineering flaw like this is really not good.... doesn't really Instill confidence, although the 4th gen taco is a 4cyl. Toyota 4 cyl motors are known to be pretty bulletproof

Been traveling all weekend, out of touch. Can someone please verify if:

1.) Income taxes have been banned in all 50 states
2.) 10 degree wind chill in hell
3.) Toyota finally revealed the ‘24 Tacoma prices

Is it typically the same bearing problem? What’s the fix? New engine or are they repairing? I would be nervous that it will happen again the next 20K. A Tundra was going to be my next truck but not sure what to get anymore.

I’m not a huge fan of Ford but that is probably the best option out there right now. Ram is decent too but kind of boring.

The Ford 2.7 is probably the most reliable and real-world tested powerplant out there. If I needed to buy a truck tomorrow it would be an F-150 2.7.

I would go bigger than that. Either the 3.5 or 5.0.

Neighbor has a Tremor F250 I think. It's not a F150 and I don't know if they make a F350 Tremor (seems unlikely). It looks big and beefy. I like it more than I would ever admit to him.

Edit: I just looked it up and they do make an F350 Tremor, sweet!

From what I can gather they don't really know the issue, and its a rebuild, I know I saw at least one that had a rebuild and a failure afterwards, but who knows if that was a parts problem or the tech rebuilder problem.

I was waiting till it came out and planning to buy one, the crazy markups slowed me down and I am glad they did it gave some time to see some issues come to the surface. It's now off the list for me.

I thought all the problems were supplier issues not design/engineering issue. Idk.

With only a 60K power train warranty do you trade in before 60K? Who’s going to want a truck with a timebomb for an engine out of warranty?

Anyone know how many failures there have been? Are we getting close to recall numbers here?

Last time I looked on the Tundra forum there were like 21. Even if you bump it to 100 it is still around .001% of 2022+ Tundras sold

My issue with tundra is the lack of fucking tow hooks . I just don't get how toyota screws that up. Ford also has far superior gas mileage and a bigger tank. Not to mention they have a proper hybrid which is being added to several trims for 2024. Not a plug in but it still gives you regenerative breaking and potentially of 1000km on a tank of gas depending on your foot weight. Dodge imo is garbage and I hear so many horror stories with the newer models . That 5.7 is too thirsty for me .
