All your talk about the FJR got me reading. I didn’t realized that the brake lever will actually engage both front and rear brakes. Neat!

Yamaha did that on the Super Tenere as well. Not sure if they've done it on any others, but it seems like a neat system.

It’s very neat! It would throw me way off with the technical braking I do, but then again when do you see an FJR in the woods. Ha

Actually the front lever engages all 4 pistons on the left front caliper and the top 2 pistons on the right front caliper. The rear pedal engages the rear caliper and the bottom 2 pistons on the right front caliper. It's a linked ABS system and works pretty well. Pretty unobtrusive and you don't really feel it much at all in normal braking. When you hit the brakes really hard for an emergency stop......You stop.

Yeah I'm not sure on the specifics of the FJR.

I do know that on super tenere the "Unified Breaking System" I thought was going to get in my way but I actually really like it for the day to day.

Super tenere sounds like it operates a bit different than the FJR. On the super tenere Rear brake will not engage the front ever. Front lever engages the front like normal and will add in rear brake via the ABS pump/accumulator based on things like speed and deceleration rate, pressure applied.

It's seamless and you don't feel any pulsing etc (unless you stab the front lever, it will apply enough rear to hit actual abs threshold). The system does a good job of keeping the bike settled and pulled into the ground during braking rather than pitching forward tons (it still nose dives but with 7.5in of suspension it's gonna happen regardless)

Now if you start braking rear first before front, there will be no linking of the brakes. So you can come into a corner and trail brake a bit with the rear then feed in the front as necessary. Or start with the rear get on the front and let off the rear and no linking will occur.

The system will also allow the rider to overpower the rear if they wish, meaning if you are braking with the front lever alone and the system is feeding the rear it's calculated pressure, you can apply pressure via rear brake lever and as soon as pressure generated is greater the system will use that greater input. (Id have to look up if once you pass that greater pressure threshold if it unlinks all together meaning if you let off rear pedal there would be no rear brake or would it go back down to the calculated pressure of the abs pump)

The system works great, keep fresh brake fluid and cycle the abs pump from time to time with a simple jumper (and make sure drain holes where the pump sits are unclogged) and people never have an issue.

My only complaint...... There are a total of 5 sections of soft rubber lines (there are hard lines that run from steering stem to mid bike) for the front brakes and 2 for the rear. Makes for a slightly greater than I'd typically like spongy front lever feel.

May want to change that. If you need PT, or worse, to get this resolved then it'd at least be nice to not have it be a bigger financial burden that absolutely necessary.

One of our greatest benefits here in CA lol

This is true. It helps having friends who live out of state who will send you the things the state won't let you buy. I had to do it with my Knox gloves as well, apparently CA deemed kangaroo leather illegal to purchase

The beak does seem redundant along with the fender

my BMW has the linked/integrated braking, it's nice. Took me a while to break out of my MSF training that dictates you start with rear, then apply front more as you lessen rear. On the BMW however, the front will always be linked to the rear unless in "Slick" (Track) mode, even if you start with the rear first. Very weird feeling when you're braking hard with both, and you feel the front take over both lol. The rear brake kinda loses pressure under your foot, then regains it as you lessen front brake lever engagement. Very weird feeling at first but doesn't affect anything as long as you aren't startled by it.

RE: your comment about 5 sections of soft rubber lines, can you swap those to braided SS?

The adult in me wants to slap you upside the head and then drive you to a medical office

but I get it because I'm the same, and never get checked out unless its something that's really serious lol. Never got checked when I crashed at that supermoto class in April and hurt my shoulder and wrist, didn't get checked when I crashed my chest into my dirtbike handlebars a couple months back, and just this past weekend I'm pretty positive I hyperextended my right quad simply because I was getting too enthusiastic and competitive in spikeball at a friend's engagement party lol. Basically, if it ain't fully broke I don't fix it.

That said, I wouldn't suggest living how I do, but I get it lol. Would definitely keep an eye on it, sounds like it might be a nerve issue if you're losing control of any motor function

There are definitely kits (to do it right its like 9 different lines - 5 for front brakes - 2 for rear - 2 for clutch) I have considered doing it for 1 - SS line goodness and a firmed up lever, but also extended top lines for bar risers. I was able to make some bracket extensions to move the hardlines so the clutch and brake soft lines that go to the bars have enough slack to use with my current bar risers but its almost too tight at full lock, but within reason. Problem is the full kits are 400+$ and im like.... im really only gaining a firmer lever feel.... 400$ is a lotta gas (well not so much these days) and riding haha.

Lol yeah at that price I'd probably just deal with it as well.
