Hoping for a great recovery. Sorry about the truck he’ll always remember it I’m sure.
Looks like the crumple zones did what they were designed to do. While trying to keep the cab intact as much as possible.

My condolences for your son’s injuries, thank God he is alive and will make a full recovery. I can’t imagine what you went through as a father that night. Such reckless negligence is absurd on the driver at fault.

A shame to see such a beautiful 1st gen taken out, but I can’t help but think yet again how amazing it is to see the Tacoma, from any generation, manage to keep their driver relatively safe in even the most horrific accidents. They truly are amazing little trucks.

YIKES! Looks like all that sheet metal did its job and made a dandy crumple zone. Glad he's OK an I know that's a relative term given the auto carnage so I also hope he keeps healing.

I have two young boys, not driving age. I already worry about the day they'll be driving. I've been in a few moderate to severe, not-at-fault accidents during the course of my life, one with a semi and another with a firetruck, and have experienced the pain and hardship that comes with that. Praying your son stays positive through recovery and feels better sooner than expected!

So glad your son was able to walk away from this horrible accident. Hopefully, the other drivers involved are ok.

As has been said, vehicles can be replaced...lives cannot.

I've had drivers steer into oncoming lane during the day time on busy streets here in Dover, DE--I leave at least 1.5-2 feet distance from the center divider in case I need to swerve away from inattentive drivers.

USAA was very helpful with the accident I had on Oct 3, 2018. Their customer service was very helpful with getting assessment done and total loss monies deposited.

May your son heal and recover from this accident.

Wow, that’s scary! Trucks can be replaced. People can’t. Glad he was able to get out of that one. Best wishes with his recovery

I don't think he walked away. There was multiple compound fractures and an airlift.

HAHA - he is a unusual young (old) man...When he is not studying (he is a Junior at Tennessee Tech), he is:
    - In church
    - He is a TA for Anantomy
    - Blacksmithing (he built his own blacksmithing shop on our property - complete with both gas and old fashioned - 1800's forges and anvils) he makes items to sell
    - Building/framing houses
    - welding farm equipment
    - doing mechanical jobs on our farm equipment or fixing cars for friends (he never charges them)
    - riding horses
    - working out with his ROTC group or going to trainings (PT every morning at 5;30)
    - Practicing martial arts/fighting (holds multiple black belts)
    - Helping friends with needed tasks around campus (he was actually delivering a prosthetic for a friend when he had the wreck)

HE does not watch TV or spend time on a computer other than for school. Growing up he spent all his time outside kayaking/hiking/mountain climbing, sailing, etc around our home and around the country. He has had a job (landscaping and construction) since he was 12 and he paid for most everything he got - including that truck - he does a lot of bartering. He never got into the video game scene or social media. We laugh he is like an 80 year old man in a young mans body. Heck he is not into fashion at all - growing up, he seldom has a shirt on - his girlfriend is the one that talks about the old man mentality. He dresses like he lives in the 1930s...like this pic below. I took that one day as he was going somewhere and I reminded him , you have to wear a shirt!

He is a great young man and we are certainly proud of him (A sincere Christian, Eagle Scout with 10 Palms, Several Black belts, many championships in Karate Tournaments, full academic ride to school, etc)...I've been reflecting a lot...I've been super hard on all 3 of my kids but especially him as he is the only boy. I'm thankful to God he is still with us!!!

I apologize for the long note.IMG_0356.jpg

Me either - they say it will be 5-6 months before the toxicology report comes out...His rehab healing may take that long.

I had debated about his in that truck - my friend gave him such a good deal. The Highway Patrolman said his truck performed wonderfully...he said look at the 2020 Nissan (Rogue)...

Thank you for posting. Really glad your son is okay.
I have a whole new level of appreciation for my 2002. And realize I need to start keeping receipts for USAA.

I've got to think it helped...I have no idea but I know that bumper has hit 3 deer - 2 while at over 60MPH and no damage to the truck. he would climb all over it, sit on it while he was doing things to the truck.

The Highway patrolman said she had been driving for "quite a while"...they were trying to get to her - but we live in a rural area and there are only a couple of Highway patrol in the area.
